Building Automation Controls Technician
Position Summary:
Responsible for the troubleshooting, programming, maintenance, and repair of building automation systems for OKCPS district buildings.
**This position has been classified as Safety Sensitive in accordance with the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act and/or the Department of Transportation (DOT), and Board Policy G-37-R3 Medical Marijuana & Safety Sensitive Positions Regulation. All candidates selected for hire or transferred into a Safety Sensitive position must undergo and pass a pre-employment drug screen before being hired or transferred. Employees holding safety-sensitive positions may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment, if they test positive for marijuana components or metabolites, even if they possess a medical marijuana license.**
Essential Duties:
-
Adheres to safety standards and provides safety awareness to site staff
-
Conducts end to end testing, downloading programming, starting up, commissioning, and servicing on assigned projects

Reviews project specifications and makes recommendations to leadership
-
Modifies instruments to improve the performances and/or function of the processes
-
Deelops and tests software programs
-
Interprets blueprints, schematics, configuration software, logic diagrams and/ or other tools to troubleshoot, upgrade system performance or diagnose system/ equipment malfunctions pertaining to facilities and projects

Maintains, repairs and installs instrumentation devices including controllers, transmitters, signal conditioners and related equipment

Selects, orders, and tracks the delivery of materials for assigned projects

Reports problems or chnges to management and recommends system enhancements, upgrades, and or repairs

Assists in performing site-specific training to staff and owner/ operator on the total building control system
-
Partners with HVAC Field Technicians and contractors to provide necessary technical assistance

Ensures work performed on all projects is done in compliance with plans and specifications

Keeps updated on current industry knowledge and BAS products

Performs rother duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities):
-
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
-
Three (3) years' experience with control theory, automatic temperature controls, building automation systems and other building subsystems including HVAC controls systems, facilities management systems, site preparation, peripheral equipment installation and servicing techniques

Three (3) years' experience with BAS system protocols BACnet, Modbus, LON and other open technologies
-
Ability to test and write modifications into systems software
-
Ability to read blueprints and specifications
-
Knowledge of configuring and programming control panels
-
Advanced analytical and quantitative skills
-
Possession of a valid operator's driver's license and acceptable driving record as determined to meet district motor vehicle insurance coverage requirements
-
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects of varying complexity and tight deadlines while continually adapting to changing priorities

Knowledge of Microsoft Office

Available for Call Outs, emergencies or shutdowns
Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities):
-
Two (2) years Windows networking experience
-
Experience with BAS systems protocols BACnet, Modbus, LON and other open technologies that include JCI, Siemens, Trane
-
EPA Certification (e.g. HVAC Journeyman, Boiler Operator, Gas Installer etc.)
- Relevant experience may be substituted for formal education at a 2:1 ratio. Therefore for every 1 year of college lacking, 2 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted.
Physical/Mental Requirements:-
Must have adequate manual dexterity to write legibly and perform required duties on the computer

Must have adequate visual acuity to read, interpret and transcribe written material and other required duties

Requires normal range of hearing and clear speaking abilities to interact appropriately with others in person and on the telephone

Requires some stooping, bending, stretching and occasional lifting not to exceed 50 pounds

Sitting for prolonged periods of time

May periodically require work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, under sometimes stressful conditions in order to meet business needs and strict deadlines
Work Environment:

Office duties will be performed in a well-lighted, climate controlled environment

Physical work is a primary part of the job (more than 70%).

Will be standing 33% of time.

Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds

Ability to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, work in small spaces, walk and reach overhead

Work involves almost constant exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals, bio hazardous materials, dirt dust, fumes, smoke, and/or loud noises
