BUILDING AUTOMATION PROJECT MANAGER | ESTIMATOR
The Building Automation (BAS) Project Manager | Estimator is responsible for preparing, planning, coordinating and delivering accurate, comprehensive estimates for BAS/HVAC Controls Installation projects. This role will also oversee the planning, execution and delivery of contracted projects by working closely with field installers and other contractors as well as internal management and finance teams to ensure a complete, successful and profitable Controls Installation project while maintaining safety compliance. It will require strong leadership and communication skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to customer satisfaction. The BAS Project Manager | Estimator will work closely with the BAS Manager and field install team to prepare bids, assess requirements, follow scopes of work and to successfully win, install and complete Controls Installation projects.

What You Will Be Doing:
  • Prepare detailed, accurate and timely estimates for Building Automation/HVAC Controls projects, including labor, materials, equipment and subcontractor costs.
  • Analyze project plans, specifications and requirements to comprehensively understand project scope, cost implications, and client expectations.
  • Collaborate with project bid teams to review bids, identify potential risks, and develop strategies to manage contingencies.
  • Develop project plans, schedules and budgets ensuring alignment with client requirements and company goals.
  • Coordinate with Controls contractors, vendors, subcontractors and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials and services.
  • Conduct regular project status meetings, provide progress updates, and resolve issues that arise.
  • Monitor project costs, implement cost-saving measures, identify potential financial risks, and create solutions to mitigate those risks.
  • Maintain proactive and effective communication with customers, internal teams, and business partners.
  • Prepare project documentation, including progress reports, change orders, and closeout reports.
  • Assist with the bidding process and contract negotiations as needed.
  • Lead efforts to continually improve project delivery processes.
  • Obtain and evaluate vendor bids, ensuring estimates reflect competitive pricing while maintaining quality standards.
  • Contribute to proposal preparation, ensuring all project requirements, terms and pricing details are communicated clearly to clients.
  • Follow awarded projects as assigned, including estimating extra work items, change orders, credits, procuring material, etc.
  • May review design options and recommend the best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or material availability.
  • Maintain historical cost data and utilize this information to refine estimates and improve future bidding accuracy.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and internal teams to clarify project scope, budget considerations, and schedules.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, new technologies, and best practices to improve estimating accuracy and efficiency continuously.
  • May require on-site presence to carry out duties and collaborate with the team.

Key Experience Needed to Hit the Ground Running:
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, construction management, or related field preferred, or relative work experience.
  • 2-5 years of commercial construction estimating, controls and/or electrical engineering experience.
  • Proficiency using Accubid or similar estimating software.
  • Strong knowledge of estimating techniques and cost control with the ability to interpret cost data and systems.
  • Working knowledge of electrical construction, design, finance and management.
  • Ability to maximize employee performance through innovative and effective management techniques.
  • Thorough understanding of industry standards and best practices, processes, standards, etc. and their impact on project activities.
  • Strong proficiency with MS Office Suite.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills (tact, diplomacy, influence, etc.).
  • Ability to work under supervision and independently.
  • Ability to deal effectively with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.
  • Be orderly and systematic in work.
  • See details and recognize errors, implementing corrective action as needed.
  • Use logical procedures in work.

  • Compensation for this role ranges from $80K to $110K annually based on experience
