Full-time / 10 month

INITIAL ASSIGNMENT:

9:00 am- 5:30 pm

Job Description

Under supervision, an employee in this position performs a variety of non-teaching duties requiring the exercise of good judgment and the ability to interact with the public. A Building Guard uses exceptional observation and decision-making skills to protect and secure the school environment by monitoring visitor activity and managing access to the building. There is a need to understand and use security technology and security/safety protocols, as well as the skills and ability to handle emergency situations. These professionals typically possess training in security.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Monitor student athletes after school, cafeteria support during lunches, and other building relatedduties as assigned.
  • Preserve order and protect property.
  • Monitor surveillance cameras and property for intruders when requested

Communicates vital safety concerns and information to the school principal.
  • Works Independently Obtains necessary information and clarification from their supervisor when given an assignment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must have graduated from high school or possess a high school equivalency diploma in addition possess one of the following;

  • One year of college training majoring in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Police Science or a related field; or,
  • Six month of experience as a watchman, guard, military police or related security position; or
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Registration as a Security Guard by the State of New York, Department of State, Division of Licensing Services at the time of appointment.

Per resolution (see L-2023-341 Item #1.9) presented to State Civil Service
Commission on January 17. 2024, action approved and filed with the
Department of State on January 24, 2024, under the Hiring for Emergency
Limited Placement (HELP) Program this title is temporarily re-assigned to NON-COMPETITIVE Classification.

HOURLY RATE: $21.78 per the OPSRPA bargaining agreement
