Plans, organizes, directs, and evaluates the operations of a primarily civilian bureau through subordinate managers.
Directs the development, implementation, and review of management systems and controls to effectively manage bureau operations.
Coordinates the work of the bureau with other Department units and external agencies, and reviews the work to ensure compliance with Department policies, standards, and goals.
Directs and coordinates the preparation and administration of the bureau’s budget including the review and analysis of budget requests, and preparation of recommendations in accordance with bureau priorities and other considerations.
Directs the bureau’s operational efficiency by implementing budgetary controls; identifying and securing funding for additional services, supplies, equipment, facilities, or personnel, as needed; serving as the highest bureau-level approval for expenditures; and directing bureau managers and supervisors in obtaining these resources for the bureau.
Ensures that the bureau operates within budgetary limitations, including overtime expenditures, and meets any contractual obligations.
Directs the analysis of existing Department policies, programs, systems, and procedures as they relate to the bureau.
Ensures that the bureau’s activities comply with the law, Department rules and regulations, and established law enforcement practices and procedures by providing overall technical and administrative direction to the bureau.
Directs the selection and training of bureau personnel; addresses employee grievances or conducts investigations that can be resolved at the bureau level or forwards to higher-level management for further action; and recommends and implements discipline.
Acts as the Assistant Division Director, Sheriff in their absence, as required.
