Bus Dispatcher

Office work in the coordination of trip reservations, trip scheduling and Bus Driver trip activities.

Essential Job Functions

Receives incoming calls on telephone and radio communications systems. Dispatches and coordinates the use of vehicle and driver resources. Prepares trip reservation assignments. Assists in schedule writing and record keeping. Answers telephone and gives information to patrons concerning bus schedules and other trip information.

Counts daily receipts and completes applicable records. Reviews road conditions, traffic flow, vehicle and driver availability, and other pertinent operational factors to determine daily trip scheduling capacity. Makes adjustments to schedules and routes as directed.

Employs customer service by assisting the public in a tactful and pleasant manner in response to trip and information requests. Performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the operational characteristics of buses.
  • Knowledge of dispatching functions including scheduling, routing, use of pertinent forms and records, and applicable regulations and procedures.
  • Some knowledge of office practices and procedures.
  • Ability to make rapid and accurate arithmetic computations.
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and effectively carry out written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergencies.
  • Ability to keep simple records accurately.
  • Ability to gain knowledge of the geography of the County.

Minimum Requirements

PHYSICAL SKILLS: Ability to sit at a console for extended periods of time. Ability to operate a keyboard for entering data into computer. Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written and visual communication.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Minimum two (2) years' of clerical experience and record keeping with one (1) year public contact and telephone work required. Dispatching experience preferred. Bilingual English and Spanish preferred.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid Florida driver's license.

All applicants must pass a urine test prior to employment. Future urine drug testing and alcohol breath testing will comply with the Pasco County Public Transportation Substance Abuse Policy.
