Bus Driver/Summer Camp Counselor

Join our dynamic team as a Bus Driver/Summer Camp Counselor and be a vital part of creating a safe, fun, and enriching environment for children and teens! In this energetic role, you will operate school buses or activity vans to transport campers to various destinations while also serving as a caring counselor during summer programs. Your enthusiasm and dedication will help foster memorable experiences, promote childhood development, and ensure the safety of all participants. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to combine transportation expertise with youth engagement in a lively camp setting. Our summer camp takes place at the Rainier School District property, so you would be required to drive from Longview to Rainier Monday-Thursday. Fridays would be field trips days or we visit local parks.

Duties

  • Safely operate buses or vans to transport children and teens to camp activities, field trips, and excursions, following all traffic laws and safety protocols
  • Supervise campers during transit and at all camp activities, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times
  • Lead engaging recreational activities, sports coaching sessions, arts and theater projects, or tutoring sessions that support childhood development and learning
  • Manage behavior management strategies to promote positive conduct and create an inclusive environment for children of diverse backgrounds, including those with special education needs
  • Assist with daily camp setup and cleanup, including organizing materials for activities or preparing snack times in accordance with childcare standards
  • Provide first aid when necessary, adhering to safety guidelines and maintaining accurate incident reports
  • Communicate effectively with parents, staff, and emergency responders to ensure smooth operations and address any concerns promptly

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; CDL; experience operating school buses or large vehicles is preferred
  • Demonstrated ability in classroom management, behavior management, or working with children in educational or childcare settings
  • Knowledge of childhood development principles and early childhood education best practices
  • Certification in first aid and CPR (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
  • Experience working with children in summer camps, daycare centers, special education programs, or tutoring environments is highly desirable
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to foster a positive atmosphere through counseling or similar mentorship roles
  • Ability to handle physical activities such as sports coaching or theater productions; comfortable engaging in active outdoor play and indoor creative projects

Please note: Pay is depending on experience and still being determined. We are also seeking a part time bus driver for our after school program currently, which if hired now, could roll into this position during the summer.

The after-school bus driver position could be just transport, which is 2:45pm-4:00pm every day, but Wednesdays are 1:30pm-3pm. Or it could be driving, and working in the after-school program or our teen program once you return to the Y. That would be the schedule listed above, but would go until 6pm daily for after-school, or 7pm for teen program.

Pay: $18.50 - $20.00 per hour
