1. Possess a two (2) year associates degree from an accredited vocational school or equivalent
certification from the military or a legitimate apprenticeship program experience as a bus, heavy
equipment, or diesel mechanic; ability to read, write, type at a high school level.
2. Minimum of two (2) years experience in a school, industrial, military truck or bus mechanic shop.
3. Self-directed; ability to perform mechanics duties with minimal supervision.
4. Working knowledge of occupational safety hazards and regulations; ability to read, interpret and apply MSDA Sheets.
5. Ability to establish written documentation and the enter information into computerized record keeping systems.
6. Certification of good health signed by a licensed physician.
7. Valid Pennsylvania CDL license with an “S” endorsement or ability to obtain and maintain one for driving when necessary.
8. Must hold a valid Pennsylvania State Inspection - Vehicle Class 7.
9. Must be able to pass Pennsylvania DOT physical / Drug and Alcohol Testing.
10. Possess necessary hand tools to maintain or repair a variety of equipment; proven aptitude in the use of hand tools necessary for this trade.
11. Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Drivers License.
12. Ability to perform all essential functions of the position with or without accommodation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Capable of performing all essential functions of Bus Driver job description.
2. Maintain and repair mechanical and electrical braking and clutch systems.
3. Tune and repair engines.
4. Repair and replace fuel pumps.
5. Repair and replace windshield washers and blades.
6. Lubricate chassis.
7. Clean air filters and heater core filters.
8. Replace front and rear axles.
9. Repair malfunctions in the electrical systems affecting cooling, lighting and steering.
9. Maintain fuel lines and carburetor systems.
10. Maintain regular inspection and repair of transmission systems.
11. Tag reclaimed parts before storing them.
12. Assist in inventory and ordering replacement parts.
13. Maintain tools and work area by sweeping, cleaning and disposing of waste in proper containers.
14. Direct the work of mechanics helpers.
15. Maintain and repair body of vehicle.
16. Performing other jobs as directed by Head Mechanic and/or Director of Transportation.
17. Perform emergency road service during normal hours or when placed “on call”.
18. Proficient at gas torch welding, gas torch cutting and electric arc welding.
19. Repair grounds keeping equipment: tractors, tractor attachments, mowers and salt spreaders.
20. Perform preventative maintenance as scheduled on District equipment.
21. Perform repairs pertaining to such things as replacement or repair work of body parts, paint and undercoat.
22. Complete the necessary paper and computer work involved in vehicular maintenance.
23. Reports to work on all scheduled days and for all hours required except as otherwise delineated within the collective bargaining agreement.
Pay: $30.70 per hour
