Within the Department of Surgery, this position will be responsible for calculating and maintaining complex productivity reports and its components, designing and maintaining reports for in-depth department analysis, and support process improvement initiatives department wide.
Position Responsibilities- Monitor, validate, prepare, and distribute department and division operation room (OR) and surgery clinic metrics.
- Monitor, validate, prepare, and distribute department incentive plan reports.
- Review, validate, and track data from UIP Deficiency Tracking reports. Create Surgery specific deficiency reports to be used with incentive plan, salary setting, and annual reviews.
- Escalate Epic Billing and Provider deficiency report issues to HCIS teams. Coordinate task force groups to ensure that the logic and build used by HCIS supports UIP metrics used, then monitor to ensure that proper resolution has been implemented.
- Use Tableau, HEDI Cubes, Epic Reporting Workbench & SQL, for annual, monthly, and ad hoc reporting needs to assist in researching & contributing to various department reports.
- Maintain all Tableau and Power BI departmental reports.
- Design and produce reports for in depth analysis of department revenue cycle, clinic access, inpatient volumes and provider productivity.
- Create, monitor and track Epic bill areas and Epic departments for accurate mapping of professional and hospital revenue.
- Use Power BI/Tableau to create new reports as requested. Report requests may be used to support departmental, divisional, hospital, or provider specific initiatives.
- Validate data in reports created by BI architects, upon request.
- Provide user support to providers regarding Epic billing issues, navigation of Tableau and Power BI reports and questions regarding departmental compensation plan.
- Provide resources for provider education regarding billing and documentation changes, or for protocol changes implemented by UI Health Care due to UIP, agency, or regulatory requirements.
- Provide individual training on billing for new providers upon request and/or present at department orientation session.
- Crosstrain with department Accountant position to be able to support basic functions of the role.
- Department Liaison with Business Analytics Team (BI), Professional Coding Department (PCD), Joint Office of Compliance (JOC), Health Care information Systems (HCIS) supporting communication among internal staff to identify and track billing and installation issues, and advocate departmental, physician and patient needs.
- Participate in department committees as requested.
Education Requirements- A Bachelor’s degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience Requirements- Minimum one year of experience in data analysis, business analysis, financial analysis, healthcare analytics, revenue cycle analytics, or a closely related field.
Desired Qualifications- 2–3 years of progressively responsible experience in business analysis, healthcare operations, revenue cycle, provider productivity reporting, or clinical data management.
- Experience working with Epic (providers, billing/deficiency metrics, Reporting Workbench, Compass Rose, Clarity, etc.).
- Experience working with complex data sets, including data validation, identifying discrepancies, and ensuring data accuracy.
- Experience with data modeling, ETL concepts, or data structure validation.
- Experience supporting or coordinating process improvement efforts.
- Experience developing or delivering training, user guidance, or documentation for business processes or reporting tools.
- Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary groups such as BI teams, Compliance, Coding, or IT system owners.
- Working knowledge of financial, operational, or healthcare regulatory requirements (e.g., documentation standards, productivity methodologies).
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office and computer software applications.
