Role Summary
As a Business Development Executive in Sales, your main responsibility will be to source, convert, and maintain client accounts in the shipping & logistics space. You will identify new business opportunities, prepare proposals/quotations tailored to client needs, negotiate contracts, and work closely with operations to ensure that agreed services are delivered smoothly. You'll also track your sales metrics and help grow the company’s market share in target segments and regions.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, generate, and follow up on new leads / prospects in freight forwarding, import/export, project logistics, and related services.
- Understand client logistics requirements, assess feasibility, propose solutions (sea, air, multimodal, customs, etc.).
- Prepare quotations, pricing proposals, and commercial contracts. Negotiate terms and close sales deals.
- Maintain and manage a sales pipeline: forecasting, targets (monthly/quarterly), conversion tracking.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships — both new and existing. Handle client queries, follow-ups, and ensure satisfaction.
- Collaborate with operations, documentation, customs broker, warehouse teams to ensure smooth service delivery and manage client expectations.
- Conduct market research: track competitor offerings, rate trends, regulatory updates, opportunities in different trade lanes.
- Participate in trade shows, exhibitions, client meetings, networking events to increase company visibility.
- Provide periodic sales reports to management: performance vs targets, challenges, opportunities.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Commerce, Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field.
- Prior experience (1‑3+ years) in sales / business development in shipping, freight forwarding, logistics, or supply chain.
- Solid knowledge of international logistics: sea freight, air freight, multimodal transport, customs documentation, Incoterms, import/export regulations.
- Strong negotiation skills, communication skills (verbal & written), and ability to build rapport with clients.
- Result-oriented mindset, with ability to work independently, achieve targets, manage pipeline.
- Competency in tools like MS Office, CRM software.
- Ability to travel (site visits, client meetings / trade fairs) as required.
- Good understanding of cost/pricing structures, margins, transit times.
