Business Development Manager

Global Commodities and Shipping Pty Ltd is seeking a commercially astute business development professional to originate new opportunities, build high-value relationships, and support dry bulk commodity trades connected with Pakistan.

The Mandate:
Lead the development of Pakistan-related trading and shipping opportunities by converting market intelligence into commercial outcomes. The role requires disciplined business development, strong counterparty relationships, practical shipping awareness, and a balanced approach to commercial risk.This position will have defined performance targets and key objectives, which will be reviewed every three months.

What you will Own

1. Originate opportunities

Identify Pakistan market opportunities across dry bulk commodities, import/export trades, industrial users, traders, and logistics stakeholders.

2. Build relationships

Develop a reliable network of buyers, suppliers, agents, brokers, port contacts, freight partners, and strategic counterparties.

3. Convert prospects

Support proposals, pricing, quotations, negotiations, and movement from lead generation to commercially viable transactions.

4. Coordinate execution

Work with trading, chartering, operations, finance, and logistics teams to support practical shipment and documentary outcomes.

5. Read the market

Track demand, pricing, freight conditions, port activity, competitor behaviour, and emerging market opportunities in Pakistan.

6. Manage risk

Identify counterparty, payment, documentary, operational, regulatory, and reputational risks before commitments are made.

7. Software Knowledge

Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)

Microsoft Teams (communication, collaboration, and meeting management)

Experience

5+ years in business development, commodity trading, international trade, dry bulk shipping, chartering, freight forwarding, logistics, or supply chain.

Pakistan market knowledge
A practical understanding of Pakistan market participants, port-related logistics, import/export practices, and local commercial customs.

Commercial capability
Ability to source leads, assess commercial value, negotiate terms, and support trading opportunities from first contact to execution.

Language
Excellent written and spoken English. Urdu, Punjabi, or another relevant Pakistani language will be highly regarded.

Ideal Profile

Existing network in Pakistan commodities, shipping, logistics, ports, cement, coal, steel, minerals, or agriculture.
Understanding of Incoterms, letters of credit, shipping documents, freight, laytime, demurrage, and dispatch.
Confidence dealing with senior commercial stakeholders and international teams.
Strong integrity, discretion, commercial judgement, and attention to detail.

Market intelligence
Useful reporting on pricing, demand, freight trends, competitor activity, risks, and emerging opportunities.

Execution support
Timely coordination with trading, chartering, operations, finance, and logistics teams.

Risk discipline
Preliminary due diligence and risk identification completed before transactions are recommended.
