Business Development Manager (Modern Trade)

Key Responsibilities :

  • Manage and grow key accounts such as supermarkets, hypermarkets, and large retail chains.
  • Develop strong relationships with category managers and buying teams.
  • Negotiate annual trading terms, margins, promotions, and visibility plans.
  • Drive primary and secondary sales growth across assigned accounts.
  • Monitor sell-out performance and ensure stock availability at store level.
  • Identify and onboard new modern trade partners and regional retail chains.
  • Expand product listings and ensure placement in premium shelf space.
  • Launch new SKUs effectively within the modern trade network.
  • Plan and execute in-store promotions, display activities, and brand activations.
  • Coordinate with marketing teams for BTL activities and campaign rollouts.
  • Monitor inventory levels to avoid stock-outs or overstocking.
  • Work closely with supply chain and distributors to ensure timely replenishment.
  • Track return policies, damages, and claims efficiently.
  • Prepare regular sales reports, MIS, and performance analysis.
  • Analyze sales data, competitor activity, and category trends.
  • Provide strategic inputs for pricing, promotions, and assortment planning.

Key Skills & Competencies :

  • Must have understanding of FMCG / Hair Colour / Personal Care category dynamics.
  • Strong negotiation and relationship management skills.
  • Experience handling modern retail chains (e.g., Reliance, DMart, Big Bazaar, etc.)
  • Knowledge of trade marketing and retail merchandising.
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills.
  • Graduate / MBA in Marketing or Business Management preferred
