The MNIT DOC team runs many unique applications that manage the information and security of the department, supporting 4,500 employees across 10 prisons and 50 field offices located throughout the state.
This position is temporary and includes full state fringe benefits; it is anticipated to last for up to three (3) years.
- This vacancy is being posted at the ITS4 and ITS5 levels. Only one (1) vacancy will be filled, and the classification will be determined by the selected candidate’s qualifications.
As a Business Intelligence Engineer with Minnesota IT Services (MNIT) supporting the Department of Corrections (DOC), you will play a key role in shaping and advancing the strategic foundation for analytics and reporting to solve complex business challenges. You will apply advanced professional expertise in analyzing, designing, developing, implementing, and supporting the administration, maintenance, and security of data within modern database platforms, helping the Minnesota Department of Corrections realize its vision of managing data as a strategic asset.
This position requires an employee to be onsite at 1450 Energy Park Dr. St. Paul, Minnesota at least 50% of the time, with some opportunity to perform work from a telework location. Telework for Minnesota IT Services is available on a limited basis. Employees will be required to meet current telework eligibility requirements.

Information Technology Specialist 4 Level:
Position requires a minimum of four (4) years of technical experience in business intelligence or data analytics, along with effective communication, presentation, active listening and interpersonal skills to lead others in the establishment of business intelligence and analytics.
Experience must include:

Azure tech stack like Azure Data Factory, Synapse, Fabric, Power BI.

Power BI, including DAX, Power Query, and Power BI Service.
-
Programming languages such as Python or R for data analysis and automation.
- SQL and experience with data modeling and database design.
-
Knowledge of cloud platforms and services (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
-
Ability to deliver effective verbal or written messages that facilitate a mutual understanding on both parties.

Customer service skills that include active listening, empathy, and problem-solving.
A master's degree in Information Technology or an IT related field substitutes for three (3) years of experience, OR an IT related bachelor's degree substitutes for two (2) years, OR an IT related associate's degree substitutes for one (1) year.
Information Technology Specialist 5 Level:
Position requires a minimum of five (5) years of technical experience in business intelligence or data analytics, along with effective communication, presentation, active listening and interpersonal skills to lead others in the establishment of business intelligence and analytics.
Experience must include:
- Leading and guiding other staff with Azure tech stack like Azure Data Factory, Synapse, Fabric, Power BI.
