The University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to serve as the Business Manager for the Center for Magnetic Resonance Research (CMRR) in the College of Medicine (COM). The Business Manager will lead or assist the daily management of business, human resources, financial management, and extramural/intramural grants, to ensure efficient operation, compliance, and financial sustainability.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead CMRR’s business plans and processes to support efficient operations and financial sustainability.
  • Provide financial administration including service rate calculations for magnetic resonance imaging, vendor contract management, cost projections, and annual reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with best accounting practices and institutional and governmental regulations. Oversee financial transactions, utilize available university resources, and adhere to relevant policies.
  • Coordinate and contribute to business projections. Review reports, resolve errors, and contribute to special projects within the CMRR, such as equipment inventory, capital projects, and facility-related reporting.
  • Coordinate HR processes, including onboarding, separations, visa coordination, reappointment, electronic filing, and time/attendance tracking.
  • Help develop and implement internal policies to ensure compliance and improve operational efficiency.
  • Prepare reports and documentation to meet reporting requirements of the COM, UIC, State of Illinois, and federal government agencies. Assist with research grant/contract administration, including those from the National Institutes of Health and other funding agencies.
  • Work with Principal Investigators to prepare and review budgets for sponsored projects, generate Banner reports and data queries, and process and review financial transactions.
  • Support general administrative tasks such as coordinating meetings, managing correspondence, and contributing to smooth day-to-day operations.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as assigned by the Director to support CMRR operations.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

A. Bachelor’s degree in accountancy, business administration, management, or a closely related field.

OR

B. Three (3) years (36 months) of work experience in accounting, business administration, fiscal management, or closely related experience.

OR

C. A combination of such education and/or work experience totaling three (3) years (36 months), as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:

  • 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
  • 60 semester hours or an Associate’s Degree equals eighteen months (18 months)
  • 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of business and management principles related to planning, resource allocation, and day-to-day operations.
  • Proficiency in administrative and clerical procedures, including word processing, data management, and office terminology.
  • Proficiency in operating office computers and other office including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.) and other business software.
  • Knowledge of fundamental arithmetic, algebra, and statistics.
  • Ability to work independently, organize effectively, and manage competing priorities.
  • Skills in identifying problems and developing solutions.
  • Strong communication and collaborative skills.
  • Ability to create and maintain internal policies, guidelines, and standard operating procedures (SOP) to support efficient business operations.
  • Budget development and management skills.
