JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/ Objectives

The Buyer will be responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing materials, supplies, and components for our manufacturing operations. This role is vital to ensuring the timely availability of materials, optimizing costs, and maintaining efficient production processes.


Essential Functions

  • Procurement Management: Source and purchase raw materials, components, tools, and other supplies required for manufacturing operations in a cost-effective and timely manner.
  • Supplier Management: Identify and establish relationships with reliable suppliers, negotiate prices, terms, and delivery schedules, and monitor supplier performance to ensure high quality and on-time deliveries.
  • Inventory Control: Maintain accurate inventory levels, track stock usage, and ensure that the manufacturing facility has adequate supplies to meet production schedules while minimizing excess stock.
  • Purchase Orders: Prepare, process, and manage purchase orders (POs), ensuring all orders are accurate and comply with internal procedures. Resolve any discrepancies related to orders, deliveries, and invoices.
  • Cost Optimization: Work closely with the finance and operations teams to meet budgetary goals and look for opportunities to reduce procurement costs through strategic negotiations and process improvements.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure that purchased materials meet quality standards and specifications. Work with suppliers to resolve any quality-related issues that may arise.
  • Logistics Coordination: Collaborate with logistics and warehouse teams to coordinate the timely delivery of materials and minimize any disruptions to production.
  • Supplier Performance Monitoring: Regularly review supplier performance, assessing delivery timelines, product quality, and customer service to ensure supplier reliability and continuity.
  • Compliance: Ensure adherence to company policies, regulatory standards, and environmental guidelines regarding procurement practices.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of purchases, inventory levels, and supplier performance. Prepare reports and analyses for management, highlighting trends, cost savings, and opportunities for improvement.

This position has no supervisory roles.


Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment. The position requires frequent visits to all areas within the facility, including the manufacturing area. While in the manufacturing area, the team member may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the manufacturing environment can be loud.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.


Position Type & Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.


Travel

Some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.


Required Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED, or one to three months’ related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Finance.
  • Industry experience.
  • Experience with currently used software systems.
