POSITION SUMMARY:
The Buyer works directly with vendors in the placing of purchase orders. In addition, will assist buying group members in the growth of SKU’s, maintaining the catalog, and in development of weekly specials.

Essential Functions
- Utilize all purchasing software tools, systems, and analytics to place and track purchase orders.
- Ensuring products are purchased at the right time, to specification and at the correct price.
- Establish strong communication with vendors, building positive, long-term relationships.
- Planning, monitoring, and maintaining suitable inventory levels that meet the department in-stock and profitability goals.
- Perform root cause analysis for stock outs, missed deliveries, and non-conformances to proactively drive permanent solution.
- Support the sales team through special orders, bid product support investigation, accurate portfolio management, and timely communication.
- Partner closely with Operations to resolve receiving and handling damages, shortages, shipment errors, and correct inaccuracies with vendors.
- Participate in the development of specifications for products and/ or substitute items materials.
- Analyze market and delivery systems to assess present and future material availability.
- Prepare reports regarding market conditions and merchandise cost.
- Assist with the solicitation and response to supplier short-dated product offerings.
- Assist in the research and completion of purchasing help desk requests.
- Work with suppliers on expediting deliveries, product out of stock, and backorders.
- Cross train with other members of the Purchasing team to have functional knowledge of all positions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications
- Dependability and willingness to accommodate work schedule.
- The ideal candidate has a knowledge base of Purchasing, Supply Chain, or Inventory Management as a Buyer, Planner or Assistant, or similar role, would also have work/worked in a pharmacy, with a clear understanding of what generic drugs are and how the wholesale/distribution market works in the pharma industry.
- Experience working with a distribution company, vendors, and suppliers, knowledge creating purchase orders, evaluating inventory levels, projecting, and forecasting, plus familiarity with warehouse operations.
- Analytical, numerically astute with strong demonstrated problem-solving abilities.
- Critical thinking, keen attention to detail, and accuracy.
- Solid organizational skills.
- Able to build and maintain effective and productive relationships with staff, stakeholders, and suppliers.
- Candidate must be adaptive, team spirited, and able to work in a fast-paced setting.
- Familiarity with the medical industry/pharmacies, NDC’s, generic and brand name drugs, a bonus.
- Read and interpret statistical reports and utilize mathematical skills to interpret financial information.
- Deal with the public, customers, employees and government officials with tact and courtesy.
- Change activity frequently and cope with interruptions. • Speak and write clearly, accept full responsibility for managing an activity
Proficiency in Microsoft office products, (esp. Excel), Outlook and MS Word- Utilization of the available time given to organize and complete assignments within a given timeline.

Skills and Abilities
Education: Bachelor’s degree; or work experience; Preferred a combination of education and experience.
Experience: Three+ years of experience as a Buyer in a Purchasing Department.
Computer Skills: Must be proficient in Microsoft suite of products including Excel, Word, and Outlook; must possess the ability to learn and master computer systems used within the company daily (working knowledge of AS400 a plus).
Other Skills: Strategic thinking, strong communication skills, ability to work well under pressure, attention to detail, and possess strong management and leadership skills.
