Company Name: Calaway Designs
Pay Range: $20 - $30 per hour (depending on experience)
Industry: Custom Fabrication (Residential, Commercial)
Location: Murray, UT
Job Summary
We are seeking a Highly Skilled CAD Designer to join our team. This role involves creating custom CAD designs for metal fabrication projects. You'll be responsible for either taking or interpreting details, including site measurements, and building out CAD drawings that custom fit a home's layout and incorporate the needs of a variety of different custom home finishes. If you have a passion for creating digital designs and want to work on unique, high-end projects, this is the perfect opportunity for you!
Who We Are
Calaway Designs is an up-and-coming custom fabrication company specializing in high-end residential and commercial projects. We work on unique and high-design metalwork, including custom doors, railings, staircases, architectural metal features and more.
We are currently looking for a skilled CAD designer who can bring previously gained skills and knowledge to our growing team. The ideal candidate should feel comfortable incorporating previous training and knowledge into the work produced at Calaway Designs, with the goal of being able to independently manage the creation of custom CAD designs. We appreciate any applicant who can combine prior skills with a strong work ethic and a willingness to continue learning on the job.
Key Responsibilities:
- On Site Measurements: CAD designers will be expected to either take detailed on site measurements in person, or interpret measurements that have been previously gathered, and show that they can accurately apply them when building CAD designs.
- Blueprint & Drawing Creation: Prior knowledge in reading builder blueprints to understand home plans, and using this knowledge along with detailed on site measurement to create detailed CAD drawings is important to a candidates skill set. Drawings will need to be easily interpreted by our fabrication team by the time they are taken to the shop environment.
- Attention to Detail: Creating accurate and detailed instructions for each department so that fabrication, install and design phases are as seamless as possible. The goal is to minimize or eliminate any mistakes or discrepancies in designs so that we can avoid extra work in the shop to fix errors.
- Purchasing: Many of our CAD designs will need to be sent to outside vendors for laser cutting, metal bending and other outside fabrication processes. Part of the CAD designers responsibilities include sending CAD drawings for quoting purposes and eventually approving quotes and moving them into production. Part of your responsibilities would be to stay on top of deadlines, ensuring that CAD drawings are prepared for quotes in a timely manner, and reviewing quotes with our company owner and communicating with outside vendors to approve said quotes.
- Details: Ensuring the drawings and accompanying information give enough detail that shop fabrication and installation of projects can proceed without unnecessary errors. We need you to take the initiative to catch errors in CAD and fabrication processes, and give as much detail as possible for each step to help eliminate extra time on projects.
- Collaboration: Work alongside experienced fabricators, and woodworkers to build an efficient team, where everyone can learn, grow, and contribute their skills to high-end projects.
What We're Looking For:
- Experience Level: At least three years in CAD, AutoDesk experience if possible - we are narrowing our search to individuals who have either received certificates or training and/or have history working in CAD design for construction projects.
- Technical Ability: Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings and apply those skills to CAD drawings efficiently.
- Self Starter: The drive to build designs effectively with details that have been produced or given to you as the lead CAD design employee. Being able to interpret information to accurately build out designs, and take the initiative to ask for additional information. Provide aid to ensure that discrepancies are being caught in the early stages and corrected to allow for less lost time in fabrication.
- Monitoring Your Projects: Ensuring that your designs meet company standards and that errors are minimized, or ideally eliminated before designs are moved into the fabrication phase.
- Work Ethic & Reliability: A positive attitude, willingness to learn, and commitment to craftsmanship.
- Transportation: Must have reliable transportation to our shop in Murray, UT. There may be times where transport will also be required into Utah and Summit County areas for site visits.
