We are currently looking for a CAD Designer to join our dynamic, fast-paced, and growing team. The CAD Designer will be responsible for supporting piping, steel fabrication, and Rhoads internal projects from concept through completion, ensuring quality, accuracy, and on-time delivery. This position focuses on technical design and detailing, including developing precise CAD drawings and 3D models, coordinating with internal teams, suppliers, and contractors, and optimizing design efficiency to support successful project execution.
What You Will Be Doing
- Interpret construction drawings, P&IDs, specifications, welding requirements, and quality standards to ensure design accuracy and compliance with customer and industry standards.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of valve types, flanges, supports, fittings, and materials used in piping and steel systems.
- Prepare detailed piping and steel fabrication work packages that meet AISC, AWS, ASTM, ASME, MIL, NAVSEA, and internal Rhoads standards.
- Generate accurate bills of materials (BOMs) and provide design data to support efficient material procurement, cost analysis, and fabrication planning.
- Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and fabrication teams to resolve design issues, ensure constructability, and maintain alignment throughout the project lifecycle.
- Conduct field measurements, verify dimensions, and update drawings to reflect as-built conditions and field modifications.
- Maintain accurate and organized drawing files, revisions, and documentation from design through fabrication and completion.
- Work independently with minimal supervision, producing accurate, complete, and timely design deliverables that meet project requirements and quality standards.
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to streamline CAD processes, enhance design efficiency, and support best practices in fabrication design.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Your Background
- B.S. in Engineering, Construction Technology, other related discipline, or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience required.
- 3+ years of experience in CAD design role.
- Proficient in CAD software (Inventor, SolidWorks, Revit, or similar).
- Proficiency in Microsoft office.
- Familiarity with engineering principles, construction methods, and industry standards.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- US Citizenship Required.
- Ability to work well in a team environment.
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Understanding engineering principles, design standards, and industry regulations.
- Ability to work additional hours as necessary to meet business plan objectives.
- Ability to work with accuracy, efficiency, and attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate requirements in an industrial environment, and to give effective direction by using written and/or verbal skills where appropriate.
- Mature Customer Service and Client Communications skills.
- Candidates will be required to successfully pass pre-employment screenings including background checks, substance abuse screenings.
The Work Environment at Rhoads
- The performance of this position involves exposure to construction or industrial areas where the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, hard hats and hearing protection is required.
- Must be able to work in a variety of physical positions, including sitting, standing, walking, and driving in an automobile.
- May require walking and standing on irregular, uneven surfaces in an industrial setting and possibly at increased heights climbing and descending ladders and ship stairways.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. stand/walk for long periods and climb a ladder.
