As CAD Designer, you are primarily focused on transportation safety infrastructure projects and offers a variety of design and drafting opportunities. You play a crucial role in producing 2-Dimensional drawings using AutoCAD drafting and Sigma NEST nesting software. You will be responsible for organizing and maintaining a digital drawing and cut file database for each project. This role requires a strong understanding of drafting and waterjet cutting processes to complete assigned tasks including 2D submittal drawings, design revisions, product part arrangement, packaging drawing production and PDF printing. You will facilitate and ensure the quality of the CAD drawings and cut files for the shop production team, communicating effectively with sales team and pricing team members during the drawing submittal, client approval and production process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take customer-generated geometry or drawings and save them into the correct file format using CAD software.
  • Utilize nesting software to generate programs for CNC waterjet equipment.
  • Interpret customer drawings and specifications and using CAD software to create production drawings.
  • Coordinate production and technical communications between sales, production, pricing and other members of the manufacturing team.
  • Create inspection sheets and shop drawings for all aspects of production.
  • Import files created with CAD software into the nesting software and generate NC files for the CNC waterjet equipment.
  • Execute document revisions as required.
  • Ensure designs conform to industry standards, regulations, and quality requirements.
  • Generate technical drawings, bills of materials data entry, and other documentation needed for production.
  • Test prototypes and recommend design modifications to achieve optimal performance and cost-effectiveness.
  • Keep up to date with advancements in CAD and CNC technology and recommend upgrades or changes as needed.

Qualifications

  • Nest parts as required on sheets to maximize material utilization and production efficiency.
  • 3 - 5 years practical CAD programming experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Two-year technical Degree in Computer programming or Computer Aided design, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with thermoplastics a plus.
  • AutoCAD
  • Microsoft office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop).
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact professionally with employees, Senior Leadership, and other stakeholders.
