Under the direction of a Caltrans Maintenance Supervisor or guidance of a Caltrans Landscape Maintenance Leadworker, the Caltrans Landscape Maintenance Worker maintains functional and landscape plantings; weed control; irrigation repair, soil sterilization; mixing and applying chemicals for weed and insect control; operates and maintains various light equipment and performs general laboring tasks associated with the maintenance of the State Highway system. In the absence of the Caltrans Maintenance Supervisor, a Caltrans Landscape Maintenance Leadworker or responsible person in charge per Chapter VIII.

Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Caltrans Landscape Maintenance Worker exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions. Permanent, intermittent positions and are not subject to Post and Bid. A permanent, intermittent employee may work up to 1,500 hours in any 12 consecutive months. The number of hours and schedule of work shall be determined based upon the operational needs of each department.

Working Conditions
Position located in District 7 Los Angeles County - South Region.
Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment.
Employee may be scheduled to work the night shift as needed to meet operational needs with proper advance notice as per the Bargaining Unit 12, Memorandum of Understanding. May be requested to work scheduled and/or emergency overtime due to storms, callback, special work projects, or to meet operational needs. Overtime will be assigned per the Bargaining Unit 12, Memorandum of Understanding.
