Pay Grade: I00

Funding Source: Local (ESL State Allotment)

Qualifications:

Valid Texas teaching certificate, at appropriate grade levels

Texas ESL certification required

Minimum of three years of successful ESL classroom teaching experience

Leadership experience (i.e. campus lead teacher, team leader, department chair, curriculum writer, etc…)

Ability to work with and lead adult learners

Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and respond to deadlines and priorities

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

Expertise in English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS) and Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS)

Knowledge of the unique educational needs of long-term ELs and Students with Interrupted Formal Education (SIFE)

Knowledge of state and federal laws relating to ELs

Effective interpersonal skills (such as building rapport, actively listening, and giving/receiving feedback)

Ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing

Experience with developing and delivering professional learning

Technological proficiency with productivity and learning management system tools

Data analysis skills

Primary Purpose:

The primary purpose of this position is to support the daily operations relating to English learners through: (1) program and compliance; (2) instruction; and (3) parent, family and community engagement. This leadership position serves as a liaison between campus and district staff to implement district instructional ESL models, provide job-embedded professional development, and accomplish specific district and campus goals relating to ELs. This individual will ensure the proper placement and services within the ESL program model.

Major Responsibilities :

Program and Compliance :

  • Support the fidelity of program implementation to increase English proficiency and student academic achievement .
  • Implement LPAC (Language Proficiency Assessment Committee) processes and procedures .
  • Assist campuses in addressing state and federal ESL compliance questions .
  • Attend and participate in LPAC, ARD, and RtI meetings for ELs as required .
  • Assist administrators and testing coordinators with TELPAS and STAAR administrations .
Work with campus counselors to appropriately place ELs and award course credits from out of country transcripts .

Instruction :

  • Collaborate with campus administrators and staff to ensure the appropriate instructional placement of ELs within the ESL program model based on individual language levels and needs .
  • Collaborate with teachers to design meaningful linguistic accommodations making curriculum comprehensible for ELs .
  • Influence core content classroom practice through continued sheltered instruction support, lesson design, observations, and mentoring .
  • Build teachers’ capacity to increase English language proficiency and academic achievement for ELs .
  • Participate in professional learning activities for professional growth in job-related skills including second language acquisition and research-based best practices for ELs .
  • Deliver professional learning that meets student, campus, and district needs, and supports strategic design .
  • Support developmentally appropriate programs for English learners identified as G/T and Eng lish learners with disabilities.

Parent, Family, and Community Engagement :

  • Attend professional development activities relating to parent, family and community engagement for ELs .
  • P rovide and implement effective activities and strategies for ELs including parent, family, and community engagement activities as required in E very S tudent S ucceeds A ct (ESSA) .

Working Conditions:

Ability to maintain emotional control under the stress of frequent interruptions, multiple tasks, deadlines, and technical problems/delays. Occasional changes in working hours for professional development and other events. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pulling, and pushing; prolonged use of a computer and repetitive hand motions. Occasional lifting over ten pounds.
