- Overall OT Operations Management
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise daily operations of the cardiothoracic OT, ensuring optimal utilization of resources, smooth patient flow, and timely surgical schedules.
- Oversee pre-op and post-op nursing preparations and maintain sterile field standards.
- Team Supervision & Staff Deployment
- Supervise, allocate, and monitor OT nursing staff duties (scrub nurses, circulating nurses, technicians, orderlies) to ensure adequate coverage and balanced workloads.
- Conduct regular performance appraisals, skill assessments, and mentoring for the OT nursing team.
- Clinical Quality and Safety Compliance
- Enforce strict adherence to infection control, sterilization, biomedical waste management, and universal safety protocols.
- Ensure compliance with NABH/JCI and hospital quality standards in all perioperative practices.
- Equipment & Instrumentation Management
- Oversee availability, functionality, and preventive maintenance of specialized cardiothoracic surgical instruments, equipment (e.g., heart-lung machine, diathermy units), and consumables.
- Coordinate with biomedical and central sterile supply departments (CSSD) to prevent equipment downtime.
- Coordination with Multidisciplinary Teams
- Act as the central communication link between surgeons, anesthetists, perfusionists, ICU teams, and other departments for seamless surgical workflow.
- Participate in preoperative planning and post-op debriefs to enhance team coordination.
- Training, Skill Development & Emergency Preparedness
- Conduct regular in-service training, drills, and competency assessments for OT nurses in cardiothoracic procedures and emergency response (e.g., cardiac arrest, massive blood loss).
- Foster continuous professional development and readiness for complex surgical cases.
- Documentation, Audit & Inventory Control
- Ensure accurate documentation of surgical procedures, instrument counts, incident reports, and patient safety checklists.
- Monitor and control OT inventory, requisitions, and consumption patterns to minimize wastage and cost overruns.
