Job Objective:
Under the direction of the Cardiovascular Services Director manages, develops and coordinates the Cardiovascular Special Programs, directs and supervises all functions and activities, develops policy/procedures/protocols to meet standards and regulations as appropriate. Collects/supervises and monitors data collection, process and outcomes of Trans-catheter Valve Replacement and Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion Procedures and other special programs including but not limited to the ECMO program. The Cardiovascular Special Programs Coordinator facilitates the professional development and education of nursing staff and other nursing team members. The Cardiovascular Special Programs Coordinator works in close collaboration with the Cardiovascular Services Director and Medical Director of the Cardiovascular Program and all multidisciplinary team members to improve the outcomes of the Cardiovascular Patient.
The Cardiovascular Special Programs Coordinator is responsible for program/project management, competency assessment, education, measurement and evaluation including cost/benefit analysis, implementation of evidence-based practice, working with accrediting bodies such as The Joint Commission and development and coordination of excellence initiatives. The Cardiovascular Special Programs Coordinator practices in accordance with American Nurses Association (ANA) Scope and Standards of Practice for Nursing Professional Development, Scope, and Standards of his/her professional specialty.
Major functions include:

Integrates advanced clinical concepts and knowledge relevant to leadership, teaching, consultation and research to effect improvements in staff orientation and retention, in addition to effecting improvements in patient care and nursing practice.

Serves as a clinical consultant and liaison to or between hospital management, patient care associates, patients and their families, community members and health care agencies.

Provides management support to the service line as needed and direct patient care in routine and emergency situations.

Works on ACC-NCDR and other databases. Acts as TAVR, TMVR, LAAO, and ECMO coordinator for the organization that includes data abstraction and coordination of applications and maintenance of outcome reports for the various programs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
A. Collects data and information related to educational needs and other pertinent situations.
Collects data from multiple sources in order to define potential issues, problems, and needs.
- Uses analytical models and assessment tools that facilitate problem solving.

Uses current technologies to facilitate comprehensive assessment of individual and organizational needs.

Prioritizes teaching and competency development needs. Works collaboratively with unit leaders and colleagues to formulate and implement a coordinated development plan.

Evaluates learning needs of nursing staff based on changes of process, workflow, equipment, and hospital policy using evidence-based practice.

Utilizes appropriate metrics to demonstrate improvement in patient care based on clinical indicators, statistical data collections, core measures, risk management data, patient and staff surveys and any other valid peer- reviewed resources.

Responsible for coordination of patient care, policy development, data collection and analysis of process for all aspects of cardiovascular program.

Monitors patient status, compliance, education, and program requirements to ensure compliance with all regulations.

Maintains practice standards according to California Nurse Practice Act, ANA Scope of Practice and ANA Work Ethics, The Joint Commission and all other regulatory agencies.

Acts as a role model by demonstrating compliance with Code of Conduct.

Utilization of the nursing process when making decisions related to patient care is essential.
B. Implements strategies and techniques to achieve positive learning and practice environments.

Improves staff competency using an effective collaborative model for staff education cardiovascular accreditation standards.

Participates in teaching and training of nursing staff to enhance staff competencies within the entire institution.

Works collaboratively with unit leaders and colleagues to evaluate the need to modify staff competency assessment practices on an ongoing basis.
- Provides community education that promotes cardiovascular health as a requirement for accreditation.
C. Integrates teaching, consultation, leadership and research to influence plans, enhance the abilities of others and effect change.

Provides consultation recommendations that influence the identified plan. Incorporates relevant stakeholders in planning and implementation for required change.

Acts as a champion in implementing and achieving strategic goals for the cardiovascular service line, associated units, and hospital.

Establishes formal and informal consultative relationships to enhance professional development and provide mentorship to other department members and staff.

Develops and implements recommendations and strategies to address complex problems.

Selects and implements valid and reliable instruments and metrics to measure processes and outcomes. Works closely to disseminate outcomes and protocol change based on accreditation requirements.

Revises program and teaching methods based on evaluation of data.
