This is a salaried-exempt position working under the direction of the Raw Production Manager. Within a reasonable time-period, the new hire shall be able to support plant operations through the troubleshooting of complex problems, providing engineered solutions to operational issues, and oversight of plant personnel. This position will work independently, or in a team, on a rotating shift, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to coordinate operations between the Boiling House, Mill, Power Generation and Refinery in order to maximize yield and minimize operating costs. This requires the application of chemical engineering principles, technology, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) to prevent or correct unsafe environmental or working conditions in and around the manufacturing division.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate Plant operations between the Mill, Power Generation and Packaging with oversight of activities in the juice processing and crystallization sections of the Boiling House, Refinery Processing, Laboratory and Raw Sugar Warehouse
  • Direct oversight of more than twenty-five (25) unionized personnel including determining schedules, sequences, and assignments for work activities based on work priority, availability of equipment, and skill of personnel; monitoring employees' work levels and review work performance; creating a positive workplace with high worker morale; and resolving union issues in a professional manner on the floor and work together with the union stewards and HR
  • Ensure maximum equipment capacity through sound engineering and maintenance practices
  • Monitor and enforce the safety program by conducting regular pre-shift safety meetings and other identified training requirements, and discipline violations of the safety program, in order to maintain and foster a safe working environment and comply with OSHA standards
  • Use SAP to schedule work assignments, record and approve time, and order materials
  • Maintain a high-level of personal knowledge on current technology and management techniques to acquire and maintain industry mastery

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering – The ideal candidate will have at least five (5) years of experience in Operations Management in a Manufacturing environment (preferably Food Manufacturing)
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in supervising rotating shift employees
  • Must be able and willing to work on a year-round, rotating shift in a food manufacturing environment
  • Intermediate or higher level proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Must be able and willing to live within 30 minutes of the Clewiston facility

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering
  • Experience with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and manufacturing methods as well as continuous improvement processes
  • Microsoft PowerPoint and Project Management proficiency
  • Experience with Continuous Process Manufacturing
  • Experience using SAP beneficial

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of computer systems and the ability to learn new complex applications
  • Effective oral and written communications skills that support collaborative teamwork as well as the ability to influence others
  • Proven analytical and field troubleshooting skills
  • Demonstrated history of results and value creation by improving process efficiencies
  • Be able to work independently and manage multiple tasks
