Job Description
Central Virginia Community College is located in Lynchburg, Virginia, in view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. CVCC is a comprehensive two-year institution of higher education with an enrollment of approximately 5,000 students in occupational/technical programs and university-parallel/college transfer programs.
This position serves as a resource to prepare students for a career through advising, coaching, preparing, and connecting them with the local workforce. The Career Services Navigator will work as part of the CareerLink team to assist students with career readiness training in professional skills. This position helps students in choosing the appropriate career pathway and ensures that students are connected to both the internal and external resources needed to attain their goals. The Career Services Navigator will assist with the operations of the Career Service Center to assist students with resumes, soft-skills, interview techniques and job placement. This position works with area business and industry to post job opportunities and organizes career fairs and related recruitment events to maintain a connection between students, the college, and the local workforce.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

The ideal candidate will possess the ability to work independently and provide excellent customer service. Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, as well as make small and large group presentations. This position must establish and maintain working relationships with a diverse population and possess a high level of organization to balance multiple priorities. Must have knowledge and understanding of local workforce needs. Knowledge of current office practices and Microsoft Office Suite
Additional Considerations
Bachelor’s degree or higher in psychology, counseling, human services, education, student personnel, or related area from a regionally accredited institution. Experience providing career advisement to a diverse population. Higher Education or Community College experience. , knowledge of VCCS student information system, knowledge of EAB Navigate system.
