Caregiver

Role Summary

The Caregiver I plays a vital role in supporting patient independence, dignity, and quality of life by providing compassionate personal care services in home care and/or center-based settings. Working under the guidance of a supervisor or manager, this position delivers hands-on care aligned with individualized care plans while maintaining safety, professionalism, and a patient-centered approach. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of older adults and frail populations.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care and escort assistance according to each patient’s individualized care plan, including grooming, dressing, peri-care, bathing, toileting, housekeeping, meal preparation/feeding, and laundry.

  • Observe and report changes in patient condition to the team in a timely and professional manner.

  • Demonstrate safe care practices by using proper body mechanics, following universal precautions, and maintaining a safe environment.

  • Interact with patients, families, and team members in a respectful, encouraging, and professional manner, promoting engagement in conversation and activities.

  • Complete routine documentation related to patient care accurately and in accordance with guidelines.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Work Experience

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with elderly or frail populations (no certification required).


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Flexibility to work in multiple environments, including home-based and center-based settings.

  • Positive, compassionate, and conscientious attitude.

  • Basic conversational English skills required; testing may be required.

  • Ability to document care-related items in basic English using designated forms or electronic health records.

  • Ability to translate or interpret basic information for supervisors, patients, and caregivers when required; testing may be required.

  • Bilingual skills may be required depending on patient population; language testing may be required.

  • If working in a licensed adult day program, must be at least 18 years of age.


Desired Qualifications

  • CNA or HHA license (preferred).

  • CPR & First Aid certification (preferred).

  • ServeSafe Food Handler Certificate (preferred).

  • Bilingual or multilingual abilities in Vietnamese, Spanish, or Mandarin Chinese (preferred).


Functional Requirements and Working Conditions

Physical and Mental Requirements

  • Ability to function effectively under stress and in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, reach, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, lift, push, pull, grasp, and perform repetitive hand motions.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally, with use of proper lifting equipment or assistance as needed.

  • Visual acuity sufficient for close vision and ability to adjust focus.

Working Environment

  • On site, center-based.

  • Shared clinical and administrative workspaces may be utilized.

  • Required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, masks, gowns, or goggles as needed.

  • Work areas are expected to remain neat, orderly, and safe.

  • Ability to function in a highly active, occasionally distracting setting.

Schedule Details

  • Shift Options:

    • 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM (5 hours) or

    • 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM (5 hours)

  • Days: Monday through Friday
