As the business expands, we are pleased to announce an incredibly exciting opportunity to be part of Qatar Airways Cargo’s Data Analytics Team in Doha as Cargo Data Science Manager.

About the role

In this role, you will be required to spearhead the development and implementation of advanced cargo analytics and optimization strategies. This role is essential in fostering a data-driven decision-making culture within the organization, focusing on critical areas such as cargo pricing strategy, accurate capacity forecasting, efficient route planning, enhanced operational efficiency, and improved customer experience.

In addition, engage in hands-on data science projects, utilizing statistical analysis and machine learning techniques, while also providing leadership to a team of data professionals.

As part of your role, your responsibilities will be inclusive of, but not limited to the following:

• Lead and mentor a team of data scientists and analysts to design, develop, and implement advanced and valuable analytics solutions across the organization
• Transform and Elevate the Data Culture of the organization from Descriptive Analytics to Predictive and Prescriptive Analytics through the implementation of predictive models through AI/ML
• Lead the development of AI use cases across the organization through the orchestration of workshop aimed ai collecting use cases across the departments
• Utilize AI/ML to improve load factor, turnaround times, and fuel efficiency
• Work with cross-functional teams to understand business needs and identify opportunities to leverage data to drive business decisions
• Effective Project Management by coordinating and communicating with all stakeholders involved in the usage of the visualization tool and making sure the tools developed satisfy stakeholders’ needs
• Develop and maintain relationships with external data providers and partners
• Monitor industry trends and best practices to ensure the team is up to date with the latest analytical and data management techniques
• Look at state-of-the-art tools used in the industry and best practices in order to Innovate, Improve and Advance analytical capabilities within the organization.
• Work closely with the Technical Team to ensure optimal performance of the analytical platform. Improve existing processes within the team and the organization which involves data and analytics tools
• Oversee the implementation of ETL processes, data models, and data pipelines to ensure data is clean, accurate, and available.

About you

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with at least 4 years of job-related experience.
• Programming & Analytics: Proficient in Python (Pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, XGBoost, PyTorch/TensorFlow).
• Advanced SQL for querying complex relational databases. Experience in R or Scala is a plus
• Machine Learning & Modeling: Hands-on experience building and deploying predictive models (e.g., demand forecasting, dynamic pricing, load optimization).
• Familiarity with time series analysis, Classification / regression, and unsupervised learning (e.g., clustering for shipment segmentation).
• Data Engineering: Working knowledge of data pipelines using tools like Airflow, dbt, or Apache Spark. Experience managing or working with ETL processes, data lakes, and cloud data platforms (e.g., AWS Redshift, Google BigQuery, Azure Synapse).
• Visualization & Reporting: Strong proficiency in Power BI and Tableau for executive dashboards. Comfortable translating data insights into clear business presentations
• Cloud & DevOps: Experience deploying models or data apps in cloud environments (AWS/GCP/Azure). Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines for ML Ops
• Experience in competitive, strategic business and/or financial assessment, trending and forecasting.
• Experience in a Network Strategy, Performance or Planning Environment.
• Prior experience within the Airline/Travel industry background or related field is an added advantage.
