Job Description
Key duties and responsibilities
- Planning and preparation:
- Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and drawings.
- Calculate material requirements and prepare site layouts.
- Select and evaluate materials for defects.
- Construction and installation:
- Measure, cut, and shape wood, plastic, and other materials.
- Build and install building frameworks, including walls, floors, and roofs.
- Fit and install trim, such as doors, windows, stairs, and molding.
- Assemble and install prefabricated structures.
- Repair and maintenance:
- Inspect and replace damaged framework and other structures.
- Perform repairs and renovations on existing wooden structures.
- Safety and compliance:
- Ensure all work complies with building codes, zoning laws, and safety regulations.
- Follow safety procedures while operating power tools and working at heights.
- Teamwork and communication:
- Collaborate with clients, suppliers, and other tradespeople.
- Instruct and direct laborers and apprentices.

Required skills and qualifications
- Proficiency with various hand and power tools, including saws, hammers, and drills.
- Strong manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and physical stamina.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
- Excellent problem-solving and attention to detail.
- Good communication skills.
- Physical ability to lift and carry heavy materials and work at heights.
