What You Will Do

  • Assist University Housing Facilities Management and supervisory staff by performing carpenter maintenance duties.

  • Repair damaged furniture, cabinets, doors, windows, screens, and walls.

  • Repair floor finishes and reported damage to University property.

  • Perform lock repair and hardware maintenance; kept shops and service truck organized.

  • Respond to after-hours needs related to the specific trade and prepared lists of supplies/services as needed.


FLSA: Non-Exempt

Please note: This position is temporary and will be filled until the designated employee returns to work.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of a recognized carpenter apprenticeship program or four (4) years (48 months) of full-time journeyman-level Carpenter experience (the trade for this purpose shall include work normally performed by carpenters, millworkers, floor layers, and any other classifications encompassed within the scope of work included in these trade categories).
  • As required by the position to be filled, current license/certification consistent with vehicles, machinery, and equipment that is routinely used in the general occupational area. i

iDependent upon institutional need, incumbents may be required to obtain job-related certification or license, such as a valid Illinois Department of Public Health Lead Abatement Worker License. Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of all tools and work procedures associated with the carpentry trade, ability to read blueprints and building specifications.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people.
  • Maintain asbestos certification and all safety training certifications.
