Job Summary
The Carpenter Technician is responsible for performing skilled carpentry work, general building and facility maintenance, construction, and repair activities throughout the manufacturing plant and surrounding property. This role ensures the structural integrity, safety, and aesthetic condition of the company's physical assets and supports the efficiency of the manufacturing process through custom fabrication and repair.
Key Responsibilities
1. Structural and Facility Maintenance
- Repair and Installation: Construct, install, maintain, and repair structures, fixtures, and components made of wood, wood substitutes, laminate, drywall, and other materials (e.g., walls, floors, ceilings, roofing, office partitions, doors, windows, shelving).
- Preventive Maintenance: Perform routine and scheduled maintenance on building components to prevent costly breakdowns and damage.
- Finish Carpentry: Complete finish work such as installing trim, molding, cabinetry, countertops, and hardware to maintain office and facility aesthetics.
- Concrete & Masonry Support: Build wooden forms (shuttering) for pouring concrete footings, pillars, and pads required for machinery or structural work.
2. Safety and Compliance
- Safety Adherence: Strictly adhere to all company safety guidelines, local building codes, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
- Equipment Operation: Safely operate all hand tools, power tools (saws, drills, sanders, nail guns), and heavy equipment (forklifts, aerial lifts) relevant to the job.
- Cleanliness: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, ensuring tools are properly stored and secured.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of proven experience as a carpenter, ideally in an industrial, commercial, or manufacturing setting.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications.
- Advanced knowledge of carpentry techniques, methods of installation, and construction/repair best practices.
- Expertise in using and maintaining all manual and power tools common to the carpentry trade.
- Solid understanding of basic math, geometry, and measurements for accurate cutting and fabrication.
- Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver heavy materials and equipment.
- Must be able to stand, kneel, climb, and work in awkward positions or at heights for extended periods.
