Educational and Experience Requirement
High school graduate or G.E.D. equivalent. Technical/vocational training related to job duties would be helpful. Minimum of five years’ experience working with Adobe Illustrator and/or Photoshop or in a related field. Minimum of two years’ experience working with cut vinyl preferred. Additional education may be considered in lieu of experience.
Nature & Purpose of Position
Provides support in the Carpentry sign shop in Facilities Services.
Primary Responsibilities
Creates vinyl signs, banners, office signs, way finding signs, plaques, name plates, laminated signs, drawings, and maps. Uses all manners of software to create and manufacture signs including Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Flex, Dr. Engrave, Versa Works, Onyx and Microsoft Office Suite. Uses multiple machines to manufacture signs including vinyl print and cut, color poster printer, CNC engraving machine, standard laser large format printer, and laminating equipment. Must be able to apply vinyl in flat work applications. Responsible for installing all manner of signs and banners. Must be able to design, purchase, and install ADA signage. Must be able to read and interpret drawings and specifications and use the computerized Maintenance Management System with work orders to allocate time and document work daily. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Other Specifications
Must be able to use various types of tools and equipment of the carpentry trade including ladders, hammers, all types of screwdrivers, ratchets, utility knives, all types of adhesives, paint, primer, all types of electric drills, and tape measures. Will be exposed to various weather elements, dust, dirt, heat, cold, noise, vibration, congested work area, inclines, and declines. Work occasionally includes high places, mechanical rooms, plant environments, kneeling, bending, and crawling. Must be willing and able to work on campus during weekends, holidays, overtime, and during emergency situations as needed.
Requires driving and operating a university vehicle; therefore, a valid Texas driver’s license and driving record acceptable to the university’s insurance carrier is required.
