CARPENTRY CRAFTSMAN-WV PARKWAYS AUTHORITY-RALEIGH CO.

Location of position: Beckley South Complex in Beckley, WV
Hourly Wage and eligible for Overtime
$17.4880 - $25.3530 per hour, based on experience in field

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

The employee will answer directly to the Foreman of the Carpenter Shop. An employee in this classification must perform at the proficiency level in the craft of carpentry. Must have thorough knowledge of the skills involved, methods, materials, and equipment used in the craft. Responsible for the leading, guiding and training of apprentice craftsmen. They will plan, layout, and supervise the work of skilled and unskilled tradesmen. They shall perform all duties of a craftsman carpenter in one or more of the special areas of the craft; framing, forming, concrete, mason and tile, and cabinet and finishing.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to accept supervision.
Ability to properly operate and maintain Parkway equipment.
Ability to work well with co-workers.
Exhibit leadership abilities.
Ability to read blueprints.
Ability to interpret BOCA regulations.
Basic knowledge of sectional equipment operations.
Basic knowledge of all areas of their craft while being first class in one or more areas.
Five or more years of advanced skills in the following areas of the carpentry trade.

Cabinet and Finishing

Must have knowledge of stain and painting, putty and caulking, belt sanding, installing trim, door, and cabinet hardware, weather stripping and hand apply all types of finishes, all trim work, plastic laminate work, and building of office furniture

Framing

Can frame, roof, floor, and wall systems. Have knowledge of lumber dimensions, nailing, installation of insulation, sawing materials to certain dimensions, shingles and siding installation, and sheeting. Lay out all frame structures.

Forming

Must have knowledge of concrete forming jobs such as footers, concrete slabs, and curbs. Can do forms for barrier wall, retainer walls, parapet walls, holding tanks, culverts, and spill ways.

Concrete

Must have knowledge of concrete pouring jobs, parging, placement of concrete, ranking, hand screed and sealing. Can operate power screed, electric vibrator, and other equipment required for this area of craft. Install reinforcement steel, floating and finishing of concrete.

Mason and Tile

Must have knowledge on mixing all mortar, grouts to workable consistency, cutting of blocks, bricks and tiles. Can lay block, bricks, hang and finish, tape, base coat, and apply texture to dry wall. Can install various kinds of tile and brick.

11. Ability to organize and direct a large crew of skilled and unskilled laborers.

12. Skill in handling and preparing reports.

13. Ability to utilize all available man hours both theirs and those of any others for whom he is responsible.

14. Ability to withstand and work in adverse weather conditions.

15.Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Must have HS Diploma or GED.
Must have Class B CDL's.
Must have 5 years of experience in all fields of work in this section.
