Carrier Procurement Specialist

The Carrier Procurement Specialist is responsible for sourcing and managing carrier relationships to ensure efficient and cost-effective transportation services for a 3PL logistics company. This role involves identifying and vetting carriers, negotiating rates, ensuring compliance with company standards and regulations, and maintaining accurate carrier information. The Carrier Procurement Specialist will collaborate with internal teams to meet transportation needs and enhance the overall supply chain performance.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Carrier Sourcing and Selection:

- Identify and evaluate potential carriers based on service quality, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.

- Develop and maintain a network of carrier contacts to ensure a diverse and dependable carrier base.

- Conduct market research to stay informed about industry trends and identify new carrier opportunities.

2. Compliance and Documentation:

- Ensure all carriers meet company standards and regulatory requirements, including safety, insurance, and operating authority.

- Verify carrier compliance through audits and regular monitoring of documentation.

- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of carrier information, including contracts, insurance certificates, and performance data.

3. Negotiation and Contract Management:

- Negotiate rates and service agreements with carriers to secure the best possible terms.

- Develop and manage carrier contracts, ensuring all terms and conditions are clearly defined and enforced.

- Address and resolve any contract-related issues or disputes promptly.

4. Relationship Management:

- Build and maintain strong relationships with carriers to ensure high levels of service and reliability.

- Conduct regular performance reviews and feedback sessions with carriers to address issues and identify areas for improvement.

- Foster long-term partnerships with key carriers to support the company's logistics needs.

5. System and Data Management:

- Input and maintain carrier information in the company's transportation management system (TMS).

- Ensure data accuracy and completeness to support effective decision-making and reporting.

- Utilize TMS and other software tools to analyze carrier performance and optimize carrier selection.

6. Cost Management and Optimization:

- Monitor transportation costs and identify opportunities for cost savings.

- Implement strategies to optimize carrier usage and improve overall transportation efficiency.

- Conduct cost-benefit analyses to support carrier selection and procurement decisions.

7. Coordination and Support:

- Work closely with the operations and logistics teams to understand transportation needs and ensure carrier availability.

- Provide support for shipment planning and scheduling to ensure timely and cost-effective deliveries.

- Assist in resolving transportation-related issues and disruptions as they arise.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related field.

- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in carrier procurement, logistics, or transportation management.

- Strong negotiation and contract management skills.

- Knowledge of transportation regulations and compliance requirements.

- Proficiency in transportation management systems (TMS) and Microsoft Office Suite, Excel.

- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
