Job Overview

The Carver is responsible for producing high-quality decorative and functional wood carvings in accordance with approved drawings, samples, and design requirements. The role supports bespoke joinery, furniture, and interior fit-out works by delivering precise craftsmanship, aesthetic detail, and consistent quality.

Key Responsibilities

1. Wood Carving & Craftsmanship

• Perform hand and machine-assisted wood carving for decorative joinery, furniture, wall panels, doors, moldings, columns, and custom fit-out elements.
• Interpret shop drawings, sketches, samples, and design references to produce accurate carvings.
• Execute carving styles such as traditional, classical, contemporary, ornamental, and relief carving as required by the project.
• Ensure carvings meet approved profiles, dimensions, symmetry, and artistic intent.

2. Material Preparation & Handling

• Select appropriate timber types based on carving requirements, grain orientation, durability, and finish.
• Inspect wood for defects such as knots, cracks, warping, or moisture issues prior to carving.
• Prepare materials by marking, rough shaping, and surface preparation before detailed carving.
• Handle materials carefully to avoid damage during carving and finishing stages.

3. Tools & Equipment

• Use and maintain hand tools such as chisels, gouges, mallets, rasps, and knives.
• Operate relevant machinery (e.g., routers, CNC rough-cut machines, sanding tools) where applicable.
• Ensure tools are kept sharp, clean, and in safe working condition.
• Report defective or unsafe tools and equipment to the supervisor.

4. Quality & Accuracy

• Ensure all carving work complies with approved samples, QAQC requirements, and company workmanship standards.
• Conduct self-inspection of completed work before submitting for QAQC inspection.
• Rectify carving defects, dimensional inaccuracies, or surface imperfections when identified.
• Maintain consistent quality across multiple similar items.

5. Finishing & Coordination

• Coordinate with polishing and finishing teams to ensure carvings are properly prepared for staining, painting, gilding, or lacquering.
• Support mock-ups and sample approvals for client and consultant review.
• Assist with repair, restoration, or matching of existing carved elements when required.

6. Health, Safety & Housekeeping

• Follow all health and safety regulations within the workshop and site environments.
• Use PPE correctly while working with sharp tools and machinery.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area to ensure efficiency and safety.
• Comply with environmental and waste management procedures.

7. Productivity & Teamwork

• Complete carving tasks within allocated timelines without compromising quality.
• Work collaboratively with carpenters, joiners, CNC operators, and supervisors.
• Provide technical input and suggestions to improve carving methods or detailing.

Qualifications & Experience

Education / Training

• Formal training or apprenticeship in wood carving, fine woodworking, or joinery (preferred).
• Certification from vocational or technical institutes is an advantage.

Experience

• Minimum 5–10 years of experience in wood carving for joinery, furniture, or fit-out projects.
• Proven experience in bespoke and decorative interior works.

Skills & Competencies

• High level of craftsmanship and artistic ability.
• Strong understanding of wood types, grain behavior, and carving techniques.
• Ability to read technical drawings and work from samples or references.
• Excellent hand-eye coordination and attention to detail.
• Patience, precision, and time management skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Working Conditions

• Factory-based role with occasional site support for installation or repair works.
• Exposure to wood dust, sharp tools, and machinery.
• May require overtime to meet project deadlines.

Pay: From Rs45,000.00 per month
