At T.J. Moore Lumber Yare are Cashiers play a vital role in our daily business operations.

Duties include:

Customer Service

• Greets customers cheerfully on sales floor.
• Responds promptly and cheerfully to customers’ needs, including requests for service and assistance.

Register

• Computes or re-computes bill, itemized lists, and tickets showing amount due.
• Operates cash register by passing price coded items across electronic scanner to record price, compile printed list, and display cost of customer purchase, tax, and rebates on monitor screen.
• Makes change, cashes checks, and issues receipts or tickets to customers or employees.

Sales

• Determines make, type, and quality of merchandise desired by customers.
• Estimates quantity of merchandise required to fill customers’ needs.
• Provides pricing information and quotes for customers.
• Demonstrates use of merchandise.
• Prepares customers’ orders for deliveries.
• Checks to make sure customers’ special orders are received and delivered in a timely manner.
• Prepares sales slips or sales contracts.

Receiving

• Unloads merchandise from wholesale delivery trucks.
• Inspects merchandise for damage.
• Counts materials and records totals on inventory sheets.
• Stores materials in appropriate areas.

Stocking

• Places new merchandise on shelves, displaying merchandise to its best advantage.
• Restocks returned items.
• Packages damaged items for return, and arranges delivery by UPS or Fed Ex.
• Takes inventory of stock.
• Keeps stockroom and other storage areas clean.

Minimum Education, Experience & Skills Required:

• No educational degrees required; high school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Must be able to read English and comprehend simple instructions and memos. Must be able to write simple correspondence in English. Must be able to effectively present information to customers.
• Bilingual Spanish is a plus, but not required.
• Lumber/hardware/building materials knowledge preferred.
• Must be able to pass a physical, a drug screen, and a criminal background check.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $18.00 per hour
