The Category Advisor Analyst supports the delivery of objective, insight-driven category recommendations to Walmart merchants by providing high-quality data analysis, reporting, and modular execution support. This role partners closely with the Category Advisor Manager to translate data into actionable insights that drive category growth across assortment, modulars, omni performance, and item content. The Analyst is responsible for developing reporting, preparing modular inputs, analyzing item and category performance, and ensuring accuracy and consistency across all deliverables. This role plays a critical part in enabling fact-based decision making and supporting PetIQ's position as a trusted, unbiased category advisor. The Advisor Analyst will be responsible for the following Walmart categories: C73 Dog Wellness, C74 Pet Training & Cleaning, C75 Pet Health & Wellness (Combo Mod), C76 Dog Flea & Tick, and C89 Pet Grooming.
Key Accountabilities:
Objective Category Advisor Support & Merchant Preparation
- Serve as a neutral, category-first advisor to Walmart merchants, ensuring all recommendations are focused on total category growth, not PetIQ-specific outcomes
- Deliver insights that help Walmart anticipate and respond to customer needs, improve in-stocks, and simplify the shopping experience
- Preparing data, insights, and materials for merchant meetings
- Ensuring accuracy and consistency of all analyses and outputs
- Contributing to fact-based storytelling through data validation and insight development
- Supporting ad hoc analysis to address merchant questions and category needs
Modular Development, Validation & Execution
Support modular strategy and execution by:
- Preparing item inputs, attributes, and ranking data for modular builds
- Assisting in assortment analysis, clustering, and space productivity evaluation
- Supporting modular drawing, cutdowns, validation, and iteration processes
- Conducting quality checks, proofing, and file preparation for submission
- Assisting with pre- and post-modular analysis to measure performance impact
Omni Category & Item Analytics
Develop and maintain reporting and analysis to support category performance by:
- Building and updating recurring reports on sales, share, trends, and gaps
- Tracking new item performance, distribution, and inventory position
- Analyzing omni-channel performance, including digital penetration
- Identifying item-level insights and performance drivers to support recommendations
Web Content & Digital Shelf Support
Support digital shelf excellence initiatives by:
- Auditing Item 360 content for accuracy and completeness
- Identifying gaps in product titles, descriptions, imagery, and attributes
- Conducting competitor site reviews to benchmark digital shelf performance
- Supporting recommendations to improve search visibility and conversion
Customer, Competitive & Market Insights
Support development of customer and market insights by:
- Analyzing ratings, reviews, and shopper behavior data
- Assisting in competitive analysis across pricing, assortment, and promotions
- Gathering and synthesizing primary and secondary research
- Supporting incorporation of Shopper and market trends into category insights
Category Reporting & Business Performance Support
Support category reporting and performance tracking by:
- Maintaining and distributing recurring reporting deliverables
- Assisting in analysis of assortment changes, pricing, and promotions
- Supporting pre/post analysis of modular and item changes
- Ensuring data integrity and consistency across reporting tools and outputs
Team Support & Ways of Working
Support team execution and operational excellence by:
- Managing data preparation and organization across projects
- Supporting timelines and deliverables to ensure on-time execution
- Collaborating closely with the Category Advisor Manager and cross-functional partners
- Maintaining compliance with Walmart Category Advisor Program requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Analytics, Marketing, or related field
- 2-5 years of experience in Category Management, Shopper Insights, Sales Analytics, or related CPG/retail role
- Experience working with data sources such as POS, syndicated data (e.g., Nielsen, Circana/IRI), or retailer-specific tools (e.g., Walmart Retail Link/Scintilla)
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and translate findings into actionable insights
- Proficiency in Excel (e.g., pivot tables, lookups, data manipulation) and experience building recurring reports
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly present data and insights
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience as a Walmart Category Advisor or on a dedicated Walmart team
- Experience with Walmart systems and tools (Retail Link/Scintilla, Item 360)
- Experience with modular development, space planning (JDA), or assortment analytics
- Exposure to omni-channel or eCommerce analytics, including digital shelf or content optimization
- Experience working with syndicated data sources such as NielsenIQ or Circana (IRI)
- Advanced Excel skills (e.g., Power Query, Power Pivot) or experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau)
- Experience in pet care, consumables, or health & wellness
