The Category Specialist is responsible for overseeing day-to-day procurement activities related to specific product categories, such as medical consumables, pharmaceuticals, or clinical equipment. The role includes vendor coordination, data analysis, order processing, and supporting the implementation of category strategies. The Category Specialist works closely with internal stakeholders and suppliers to ensure procurement efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and continuous supply to meet operational needs.


  • Manage end-to-end procurement for assigned categories in accordance with internal policies and compliance standards.
  • Conduct sourcing and purchasing activities to ensure timely availability of goods and services.
  • Liaise with suppliers to obtain quotations, negotiate terms, and ensure adherence to agreed terms.
  • Maintain updated records of vendor information, pricing, and contracts.
  • Monitor supplier performance, including delivery timelines, quality, and responsiveness.
  • Coordinate with internal departments to understand and fulfill procurement requirements.
  • Analyze procurement data and generate reports on category spend, savings, and usage trends.
  • Support category planning and strategy execution under the guidance of the procurement leadership.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities through consolidation, volume leverage, or alternative sourcing.
  • Handle day-to-day procurement documentation including PO creation, GRN tracking, and invoice resolution.
  • Ensure that procurement activities are conducted in accordance with UAE regulations and internal compliance policies.
  • Assist in preparing tender documentation and managing RFQs/RFPs.
  • Resolve supplier-related issues and escalate when necessary.
  • Participate in vendor evaluations and contribute to supplier development initiatives.


Education and Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field (mandatory).

  • Certification in procurement or supply chain (e.g., CIPS, CPSM) is preferred.

Category Specialist benefit from having experience/competency in:

  • Sourcing medical consumables, pharmaceuticals, or equipment.

  • Vendor relationship management and negotiation.

  • Data analysis and reporting for procurement performance.

  • Supporting procurement strategy execution.

  • Understanding of healthcare quality and regulatory standards.

  • Coordination with warehousing, logistics, and clinical departments.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Good understanding of healthcare procurement processes and best practices.

  • Familiarity with the UAE healthcare supplier and product landscape.

  • Working knowledge of ERP and procurement systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle).

  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and reporting tools.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
