The Cath Lab Nurse is responsible for providing specialized nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures. The role includes patient preparation, intra-procedural assistance, post-procedure monitoring, and ensuring patient safety in accordance with hospital policy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare patients physically and psychologically for cardiac catheterization and interventional procedures.
- Assist cardiologists during procedures such as coronary angiography, angioplasty, stent placement, pacemaker insertion, and other invasive cardiac procedures.
- Monitor patients’ vital signs, cardiac rhythms, and hemodynamic status before, during, and after procedures.
- Administer medications as prescribed and monitor for adverse reactions.
- Maintain sterile technique and assist with equipment setup and handling.
- Provide post-procedure care, including monitoring puncture sites, managing complications, and patient education.
- Accurately document nursing care, procedures, and patient responses.
- Ensure compliance with infection control, radiation safety, and patient safety protocols.
- Participate in emergency situations such as cardiac arrest and assist with resuscitation.
- Collaborate with physicians, technologists, and other healthcare team members.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and ongoing professional development.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Nursing from an accredited institution.
- Valid nursing license (SCFHS or equivalent, or eligible for licensure).
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Cath Lab, Cardiology, ICU, or CCU.
- Current BLS and ACLS certification.
