RENO-SPARKS INDIAN COLONY: WHO WE ARE

The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony (RSIC) is a federally recognized tribal government dedicated to the economic and social advancement of its people. Established in the early 1900s and formally recognized under the Indian Reorganization Act of 1934, the RSIC represents over 1,100 members of the Paiute, Shoshone, and Washoe Tribes—Three Tribes, One Nation. Our lands include the original 28-acre Colony in central west Reno and a 1,920-acre community in Hungry Valley, located 19 miles north of the Colony in the scenic Eagle Canyon region of Nevada. The RSIC is a vibrant and growing organization that honors traditional teachings and cultural heritage while embracing modern business practices and innovative governance. DAY TO DAY AS A CERTIFIED EDUCATOR

As a Part Time Certified Educator with the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, you will play a vital role in the RSIC After School Program under the direct supervision of the Education Department Manager. Your primary responsibilities will include developing and organizing instructional materials tailored for students, ensuring an engaging and supportive learning environment. You will provide personalized tutoring and homework assistance, fostering a culture of academic integrity and safety.

Additionally, you will assess student progress monthly, delivering valuable feedback to parents, and maintaining accurate records of attendance and assessments. This position offers a unique opportunity to positively influence students' educational journeys while supporting the community's educational goals.

ARE YOU A GOOD FIT FOR THIS CERTIFIED EDUCATOR JOB?

To excel as a Part Time Certified Educator at the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, candidates must possess a minimum of five years of experience as a teacher or educator within a school district. A demonstrated commitment to assisting school-aged children is essential, showcasing a passion for fostering their academic growth. Strong communication skills are vital, as you'll be engaging with students and their parents effectively. An eagerness to teach and inspire is imperative for nurturing a supportive learning environment. Additionally, successful candidates must pass a security background check and comply with Indian Preference policies.

Adherence to PL 101-630 Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Act requirements is necessary. This role seeks dedicated individuals who are not only skilled educators but also enthusiastic supporters of student development and safety.

Knowledge and skills required for the position are:

  • Must have been a teacher/educator in a school district for a minimum of 5 years.
  • Must have demonstrated an interest and commitment to assist school aged children.
  • Should possess strong communication skills and eagerness to teach.
  • Must pass a security background check.
  • Must be able to pass PL 101-630 Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Act investigation including driving record criminal background and employment and education verification.
