Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) – Gastroenterology Clinic
Position Summary:
The Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) plays a vital role in supporting providers and ensuring smooth daily operations in a gastroenterology clinic. This position involves direct patient care, clinical preparation, administrative support, and coordination of GI-specific diagnostic procedures. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, compassionate, and able to thrive in a fast-paced specialty environment.
Key Responsibilities - Patient Care & Clinical Support
- Room patients, obtain vital signs, and document medical history, medication lists, allergies, and presenting symptoms.
- Prepare patients for GI consultations and procedures by explaining expectations and assisting with comfort and privacy.
- Provide patient education on bowel prep instructions, procedure expectations, and follow-up care under supervision.
Clinical Procedures
- Assist providers with in-office gastroenterology procedures (e.g., anoscopy, hemorrhoid treatments, fecal occult blood testing).
- Collect and process lab specimens, including stool samples and breath test samples.
Workflow & Clinic Efficiency
- Maintain organized patient flow to minimize wait times and support timely provider schedules.
- Track and manage recall lists, diagnostic test follow-ups, and outstanding labs.
- Assist with scheduling diagnostic studies such as colonoscopies, endoscopies, imaging, and specialty tests.
Documentation & Administrative Tasks
- Document all clinical tasks and patient interactions accurately in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Communicate with pharmacies regarding prescription refills, prior authorizations, and medication clarification.
- Ensure all forms, consents, and pre-procedure documentation are completed and uploaded correctly.
- Handle incoming patient calls related to symptoms, test prep questions, and results under provider guidance.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow HIPAA, OSHA, and infection control protocols at all times.
- Maintain clean exam rooms and ensure equipment and supplies are stocked and within expiration dates.
- Assist with inventory management and ordering medical supplies as needed.
Qualifications
- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) or equivalent credential (CMA, RMA, NCMA).
- Previous experience in an outpatient specialty clinic, preferably gastroenterology or internal medicine, is highly desirable.
- Proficiency with Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems.
- Strong communication, multitasking, and patient-care skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive GI-related conditions with professionalism and empathy.
- CPR certification required (or obtained upon hire).

Work Environment

Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour
Expected hours: 32 – 37 per week
