Certified Medical Assistant

A Medical Assistant (MA) under the direct supervision of a physician or Advanced Care Practitioner. Decisions are limited to defined parameters around work expectations, quality standards, priorities, policies, and procedures.

These duties and responsibilities described below represent the general tasks performed on a daily basis by Medical Assistance. Any other duties as needed to drive to the vision, fulfill the mission, and abide by the values of the organization.

• Responsible for rooming patients and prepare them for examination

• Takes patients vital signs which include blood pressure, height, weight and documents in EMR

• Updates patient medical record including medications, allergies, past medical & surgical history

• Preps procedure room for minor procedure and assist with those procedures as needed

• Prepares exam rooms for provider dependent on appointment type

• Cleans exam room and beds after each appointment and restocks medical supplies daily

• Assist physician and Acute Care Providers with patient examinations

• Draws blood, perform EKG, SWAB test and any additional clinical test within clinic

• Manages Physician orders by submitting to appropriate departments such as imaging, labs, scheduling surgeries, or referral to specialist. Confirm all orders are completed and that results have been returned

• Obtain Prior Authorizations as needed

• Able to check in patients, register patients, verify insurance, scan documents in patient charts, answer phones, return phone calls, and schedule appointments

• Presents strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills

• Attend required hospital-wide orientations, meetings, and in-services

• Exhibits a commitment to flexible work scheduling when necessary to ensure patient care
