Certified Medical Assistant and Scribe

JOB PURPOSE OR MISSION: The Medical Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting our physicians and ensuring the smooth operation of our ENT and Allergy clinic. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of clinical and administrative tasks, demonstrating excellent communication skills, and maintaining a high standard of patient care. Their job mission is to assist the physician in coordinating care appropriate for the needs for the age population served, as defined in the department’s scope of service and under the direction/supervision of the physician and practice manager.

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA

CRITERIA A: Clinical Competence

  • Demonstrates proficiency in performing clinical tasks related to ENT and allergy care, including patient examinations, allergy testing, and diagnostic procedures.
  • Adheres to established medical protocols and standards to ensure accurate and effective patient care.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of relevant medical advancements, treatment modalities, and best practices in ENT and allergy care.

CRITERIA B: Patient Interaction and Communication:

  • Exhibits excellent communication skills when interacting with patients, demonstrating empathy, active listening, and clear explanations of medical information.
  • Ensures patients feel comfortable and well-informed throughout their interactions, fostering a positive and compassionate patient experience.
  • Effectively communicates with colleagues, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to facilitate coordinated patient care.

CRITERIA C: Personal Achievement

  • Uses accepted procedures and practices to complete assignments. Uses creative and proactive solutions to achieve objectives even when workload and demands are high.
  • Adheres to high moral principles of honesty, loyalty, sincerity, and fairness.
  • Upholds the ethical standards of the organization.

CRITERIA D: Efficiency and Productivity

  • Manage patient appointments and clinic schedules efficiently, minimizing wait times and optimizing patient flow.
  • Complete administrative tasks promptly, such as accurate documentation, responding to emails, and handling phone inquiries.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and contribute to the overall efficiency of clinic operations.

CRITERIA E: Adherence to Policies and Compliance

  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of clinic policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Adhere to infection control protocols, ensuring a clean and safe environment for patients and staff.
  • Participate in ongoing training to stay informed about changes in healthcare regulations and compliance standards.

JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Clinical Support:

  • Assist healthcare providers during patient examinations, procedures, and treatments related to ear, nose, and throat conditions, as well as allergies.
  • Perform clinical tasks such as administering injections, medications, and immunizations as directed by healthcare providers.
  • Conduct diagnostic tests and procedures which may include, POC Testing, nasal endoscopy, allergy testing, and skin prick testing.

2. Patient Care and Education:

  • Obtain and accurately record patient vital signs, medical histories, and chief complaints efficiently.
  • Assist with patient education, providing instructions on medications, treatment plans, and post-procedure care.
  • Manage patient flow to ensure timely and efficient transitions between different stages of care.
  • Discuss with patients the amount owed from in office procedures

3. Clinical Environment Management:

  • Prepare examination rooms, ensuring cleanliness, availability of supplies, and proper functioning of medical equipment.
  • Clean and sterilize medical instruments, maintaining infection control standards.
  • Prepare and process laboratory specimens, ensuring accurate labeling, documentation, and timely delivery to the laboratory.

4. Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Document patient information, medical histories, test results, and treatment plans accurately in electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
  • Assist with scheduling patient appointments, referrals, and follow-up visits as needed.

5. Collaboration and Compliance:

  • Collaborate with the healthcare team, including physicians, nurses, and administrative staff, to provide comprehensive and coordinated patient care.
  • Adhere to HIPAA regulations and clinic policies to maintain patient confidentiality and privacy.
  • Stay updated on the latest advancements, guidelines, and best practices in ENT and allergy care.

6. Performs all other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
1-2 years experience in a clinic setting (required)

1-2 years experience in an ENT/Allergy clinic (highly preferred)

Experience with Modernizing Medicine EMR (highly preferred)

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

High School Diploma or GED (required)

Medical Assistant Certification (required - experience may substitute)

SPECIAL SKILL, LICENSE AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

Proven experience as a Medical Assistant or in a similar clinical role, preferably in an ENT and Allergy Clinic or a related specialty. Familiarity with audiometry, tympanometry, nasal endoscopy, allergy testing, and skin prick testing is preferred.

HIPAA REQUIREMENTS:

Maintains knowledge of and adherence to all applicable HIPAA regulations appropriate to Job Position including but not limited to: paper and electronic medical records without limitation, patient demographics, surgery/appt schedules, patient financial and 3rd party billing information, patients related complaints, information related to patient location and religious beliefs.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:

Maintains knowledge of and adherence to all applicable safety practices appropriate to Job Position including but not limited to: incident reporting, handles wastes, sharps and linens, PPE, exposure control plans, hand washing, environmental rounds to ensure safety, administers meds/bloods products, receives orders for patients, clinical alarms, collects blood samples for all age groups.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.00 - $21.50 per hour
