Certified Peer Recovery Specialist

The Enoch Pratt Free Library has an opening for a full-time Certified Peer Recovery Specialist to support our Peer Navigator program. Peer Recovery Specialists are individuals with personal experience in overcoming substance abuse, as well as mental and behavioral health challenges. They create a safe, supportive, and confidential environment where they can serve as role models for recovery from drug abuse, connect patrons to community resources, and promote overall wellness.
This is a full-time, multi-year position supported by the Baltimore City Opioid Restitution Fund.

Summary of Duties:
The summary of duties listed below is not exhaustive and is dependent upon the needs of the hiring department.
  • Serve as a recovery advocate by providing person-centered resources and support
  • Assist individuals to make informed choices that promote recovery and support wellness
  • Assist individuals with finding appropriate community-based services and support
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community organizations and partners to strengthen referral and recovery networks
  • Use evidence-based techniques to support individual client recovery goals
  • Support harm reduction initiatives, including providing or coordinating Narcan training
  • Communicate effectively with internal staff, stakeholders, and community partners
  • Utilize electronic systems for data entry, documentation, and communication
  • Uphold ethical standards and maintain appropriate professional boundaries
  • Collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Participate in required meetings, training, and continuing education activities.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Maryland Certified Peer Recovery Specialist certification.
  • Two (2) years in continuous recovery.
  • Lived experience with substance use recovery.
  • Resident of Baltimore City.
  • Experience with MS Office and Google Suite.
  • Experience in a community outreach or a community-focused role.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to and modeling of recovery ethics and principles.
  • Knowledge of Baltimore city community resources and recovery services.
Supplemental Information
Certified Peer Recovery Specialists must maintain active certification status throughout employment. In cases where certification is revoked or suspended for any reason, employees may face reassignment, suspension, or termination, in accordance with agency policy and supervisory review.
Position of Trust: Those under final consideration for appointment will be required to authorize the release of and successfully complete a criminal conviction check.
Financial Disclosure: This position is required to complete a Financial Disclosure pursuant to Sections 7-7, 7-8, and 7-9 of the City Ethics Law.
