Certified Pharmacy Technician

Position Summary

Shift 7 AM to 3:30 PM

Must hold CPht or PTCP license.

Pharmacy technicians assist the pharmacist in the preparation and dispensing of medications, maintaining the drug inventory, and maintaining patient and pharmacy records in a manner consistent with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations, as well as pharmacy policies and procedures. This position is responsible for providing the highest level of customer service and patient care to ensure a positive experience and patient healthcare outcomes.

Essential Functions:

1. Read and interpret physician's medication orders

2. Efficient and knowledgeable of basic principles, theories, laws, policies, and procedures that pertain to compounding- specifically USP <795>, <797>, <800>, other USP general chapters, and best compounding practices.

3. Prepares high-quality compounded medications (capsules, troches, creams, solutions, etc.) according to USP <795>, <797> and <800> and other compounding rules and regulations in both ISO 5 environments as well as non-sterile hazardous rooms.

4. Performing compounding procedures, quality assurance/control checks, and preparation of compounded medications

5. Understands and can perform basic pharmaceutical calculations to obtain correct doses of medications

6. Prepares medications under the supervision of a pharmacist so they are accurately compounded. Adheres to appropriate safety and quality assurance practices and OptioRx policies and procedures. Complies with state and federal laws.

7. Prepare and package medications requiring special handling in accordance with safety measures

8. Aid in the filling, processing, and dispensing of medications

9. Re-package and label medications

11. Help maintain the drug inventory through inventory control practices

12. Provide customer service by answering phone calls in a prompt and courteous manner

13. Triage requests and prioritize them to drive efficiency

14. Other tasks assigned by the manager

15. Represent the pharmacy professionally and courteously in all interactions with patients

16. Assist in resolving patient concerns and complaints

17. Report product incidents as required by pharmacy policy

18. Participate in surveys conducted by authorized inspection agencies

19. Participate in the pharmacy’s Performance Improvement program

20. Initial, periodic and validation training as required by USP <795>, <797> and <800>

qualifications

· Education and/or Training:

a. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required

b. Formal compounding training/certifications (i.e. PCCA, ACA, ASHP) an advantage

· Professional Experience:

a. Training on calibration, maintenance, and use of appropriate equipment to compound prescription orders and monitor the compounding environment

b. Basic math skills including adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing into all units of measure

· Licenses/Certifications:

a. Current pharmacy technician registration/certification

b. Enhanced compounding training from a recognized program preferred

c. CPhT preferred

· Specialized Skills:

a. Proficiency with technology use, MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PPT), Outlook & Internet applications, pharmacy management systems, PCCA or other compounding software used by pharmacies

b. Able to operate equipment such as computers, scan guns, tablet counters, and cash registers

c. Familiarity with pharmacy practice settings, legal requirements and limitations, prescription information and calculations, drug identification and generic equivalents, drug manufacturing, packaging and labeling information, and proper drug handling and storage practices

· Technical Skills: Underlying skills that enable an employee to perform effectively on the job

a. Must have good communication skills, both written and verbal

b. Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal skills

· Successfully pass background check prior to employment

PHYSICAL Requirements

Physical Activities:

· Ability to continuously stand for extended periods

· Majority of time is spent in the laboratory preparing medications

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
