Job Summary

The Certified Pharmacy Technician assists the Pharmacist with the compounding of sterile preparations and the assembly of patient care supplies and equipment. The Certified Pharmacy Technician assists with the maintenance and cleaning of the pharmacy work areas as described in the Pharmacy Policy and Procedure Manual, and assists with quality control and performance improvement activities as directed by the Pharmacy Manager. This position reports directly to the Pharmacist in charge and office manager

Hours for this position are three weekdays 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Prepares medications under the supervision of a pharmacist to ensure the accurate and correct compounding of all medications. Ensures that a licensed pharmacist properly checks all compounding and packing. Adheres to appropriate safety and quality assurance practices. Complies with state and federal law.
  • Complies with company policies related to the compounding process and patient care.
  • Maintains knowledge of sterile compounding best practices to assure the quality, sterility, and stability of compounded sterile preparations.
  • Accurately prepares medications, labels, and drug compounding records.
  • Accurately prepares patient supplies for deliveries. Accurately packages medications and supplies for shipping to patient homes.
  • Consistently maintains and cleans pharmacy work areas and completes the pharmacy maintenance and temperature log.
  • Completes assigned paperwork/document in a timely manner.
  • Maintains and rotates inventory as directed by Pharmacy Manager.
  • Accepts deliveries and performs appropriate procedures for moving supplies/deliveries into pharmacy and clean areas.
  • May work on advanced projects and committees, participate in performance improvement, complete and monitor quality control, assist with the purchasing of products and coordinate compound room scheduling.

Physical Requirements

  • May require lifting over 20 lb.
  • May require standing for extended periods
  • May require frequent use of computer keyboard.

Qualifications and Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Understands and can perform basic pharmaceutical calculations in order to obtain correct doses of medications
  • Good interactive skills with employees, supervisors, referral sources, and consumers
  • Registered and certified with Alabama State Board of Pharmacy
  • Experience in either sterile compounding or home infusion is preferred
  • Good knowledge base of NDC codes, ordering therapies, billing holds and Prior authorizations

Education:

  • High school or equivalent (Preferred)
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification

Experience:

  • Pharmacy technician experience: 2 years REQUIRED
  • Sterile Compounding experience REQUIRED
  • Home Infusion experience preferred

Shift availability:

  • Day Shift

Work Location: On site in Calera, AL

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $24.00 per hour
