Position Summary – Experienced CPA, Business Practice Manager (Hybrid)
We are seeking an experienced Tax & Accounting Senior to join our growing public accounting firm serving small to medium-sized businesses and individuals. This role is ideal for a hands-on professional who can manage tax compliance, accounting, and payroll functions while working directly with clients and mentoring staff.
The Tax & Accounting Senior will be responsible for overseeing individual and business tax engagements, managing payroll and sales tax compliance, reviewing bookkeeping and trial balances, and ensuring accurate and timely client deliverables.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Compliance & Planning
- Prepare and review individual (Form 1040) and business tax returns (Forms 1120, 1120S, 1065)
- Handle multi-state tax filings as needed
- Identify tax planning opportunities and proactively advise clients
- Research and resolve tax issues, notices, and client questions
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations
Accounting & Bookkeeping Oversight
- Review and manage bookkeeping for small to medium-sized clients
- Prepare and review trial balances, adjusting journal entries, and financial statements
- Ensure accurate month-end and year-end close processes
- Work with clients to clean up books and improve accounting processes
Payroll & Sales Tax
- Oversee payroll processing and filings (monthly, quarterly, and annual)
- Ensure timely payroll tax deposits and compliance
- Prepare and review sales and use tax filings across jurisdictions
- Resolve payroll and sales tax notices and discrepancies
Client Management
- Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned clients
- Build strong, long-term client relationships through proactive communication
- Manage multiple client engagements and deadlines simultaneously
- Explain financial and tax concepts clearly to non-financial clients
Team & Firm Support
- Review work prepared by staff and provide constructive feedback
- Assist in training and mentoring junior staff
- Help improve firm processes, workflows, and documentation
- Coordinate with partners on client matters and capacity planning
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field (Master’s a plus)
- CPA license preferred and CPA candidate acceptable
- 10+ years of experience in public accounting, with exposure to both tax and accounting
- Strong experience with individual and business tax returns
- Solid understanding of payroll, sales tax, and small business accounting.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks Online/Desktop)
- Experience with tax preparation software (e.g., Drake, UltraTax, or similar)
- Payroll systems experience (e.g., QuickBooks Online/Desktop, ADP, Paychex, or similar)
- Strong Excel skills

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
