Certified Sterile Compounding Home Infusion Pharmacy Technician

Overview
We are seeking a Certified Sterile Compounding Pharmacy Technician to support our home infusion pharmacy by preparing compounded sterile products and coordinating cleanroom operations in compliance with USP <797>, USP <800>, Washington State regulations, and payer/accreditation standards. The technician works in an ISO‑classified cleanroom to compound IV medications for home and alternate‑site infusion, collaborating closely with pharmacists, nurses, and logistics staff to ensure safe, accurate, and timely therapies for patients at home.

DutiesKey Responsibilities – Sterile Compounding & Cleanroom

• Compound sterile IV preparations (e.g., IV antibiotics, TPN, hydration, IG/biologics, pain and other specialty infusions) for home infusion patients using proper aseptic technique inside primary engineering controls (LAFWs/BSCs) in an ISO 5 environment within an ISO‑classified buffer room.
• Follow USP <797> and USP <800> standards and internal policies for garbing, hand hygiene, hood and room cleaning, hazardous drug handling, beyond‑use dating, and documentation of all compounded sterile preparations (CSPs).
• Perform and document required environmental and engineering control checks as assigned (e.g., daily/weekly cleaning tasks, temperature and pressure logs, support for surface/air sampling programs) to maintain home‑infusion cleanroom compliance.
• Accurately interpret labels and worksheets, select and measure ingredients, perform dose/volume calculations, compound and inspect final CSPs, and apply correct labels and auxiliary information for home use.

Key Responsibilities – Home Infusion Workflow

• Stage and prioritize compounding based on the home infusion production schedule (delivery windows, nurse visit times, and patient start‑of‑care dates), coordinating with pharmacists, intake, and nursing to meet cut‑off times for couriers/drivers.
• Prepare shipping containers, cold‑chain packaging, and ancillary supplies (flushes, tubing, administration sets) with each order so that home infusion nurses and patients receive complete, ready‑to‑use therapy kits.
• Assist pharmacists with reviewing orders for volume, stability, storage, and infusion pump requirements specific to home therapy (e.g., elastomeric pumps, ambulatory pumps, gravity sets) and report any discrepancies or safety concerns immediately.
• Maintain organized inventory of IV drugs, diluents, and supplies used in home infusion; monitor expirations, rotate stock, and help implement strategies that minimize waste while supporting just‑in‑time compounding for patient‑specific prescriptions.

Minimum Qualifications (Washington State)

• High school diploma or GED.
• Current Washington State Pharmacy Technician credential (active) in good standing, obtained through a Washington‑approved training pathway and national certification exam (PTCE or ExCPT).
• Current national Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) credential.
• Prior sterile compounding experience in a hospital, home infusion, or compounding pharmacy with demonstrated aseptic technique; home infusion experience preferred but strong sterile background with willingness to learn home infusion workflow will be considered.

Preferred / Desired Qualifications

• Experience working in a home infusion pharmacy or centralized infusion cleanroom producing CSPs for home‑based patients (awareness of delivery timelines, nurse scheduling, and home logistics).​
• PTCB Certified Compounded Sterile Preparation Technician (CSPT) or commitment to obtain CSPT within 12–24 months of hire.​
• Familiarity with USP <797>, USP <800>, NHIA/ASHP home infusion best practices, and Washington State Board of Pharmacy rules for sterile compounding.

Skills and Abilities

• Strong attention to detail with excellent calculation, measurement, and documentation skills; able to manage multiple patient‑specific orders with different delivery deadlines.
• Proven aseptic technique and adherence to cleanroom practices, with willingness to complete ongoing media fills, gloved fingertip testing, and competency assessments.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with pharmacists, technicians, home infusion nurses, intake/authorization staff, and drivers to support a smooth end‑to‑end patient experience.​
