Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)

The Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) is responsible for ensuring welding activities and fabricated steel components meet applicable codes, project specifications, and company quality standards. This role performs weld inspections, verifies welding procedures, and documents quality control activities within a steel fabrication environment. The CWI works closely with production, quality, and project teams to maintain compliance with industry standards and support high-quality fabrication.

What You’ll Do

  • Perform visual and dimensional inspections of welded assemblies and fabricated steel components.
  • Verify welding procedures, welder qualifications, and materials comply with applicable standards and project requirements.
  • Inspect welds for conformance with AWS D1.1 and other applicable welding codes.
  • Review fabrication drawings, welding symbols, and project specifications.
  • Document inspection results, non-conformance issues, and corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with welding supervisors and production teams to address quality concerns.
  • Verify proper material identification, traceability, and weld documentation.
  • Support internal and customer quality audits and inspections.
  • Maintain inspection reports, quality documentation, and welding records.
  • Promote safe work practices and compliance with shop safety policies.

What You Bring

  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification required.
  • Strong knowledge of structural steel welding processes and fabrication practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, welding symbols, and project specifications.
  • Experience inspecting welds using visual inspection methods and measurement tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality standards.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with welders, supervisors, and quality personnel.
  • Ability to work in a steel fabrication or industrial manufacturing environment.

Education | Experience

  • Valid AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
  • Experience in steel fabrication, welding inspection, or quality control.
  • Ability to read fabrication drawings and welding specifications.
  • 3–5+ years of welding inspection experience in a fabrication shop or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working with AWS D1.1 structural welding code.
  • Familiarity with structural steel fabrication standards and quality documentation.
