Employment Type: Full-time
About the Role
We are hiring a CFD Engineer with 4+ years of experience to lead and execute advanced simulations involving phase change and multiphase flows. You will work closely with our design team to translate 3D concepts into simulation-ready models, run high-quality CFD studies, extract actionable insights, and deliver optimization feedback supported by data.
Preferred Education
- Bachelor’s / Master’s degree (preferred) in Mechanical / Chemical / Aerospace Engineering (or equivalent)
- Strong practical simulation track record is essential regardless of degree level
Key Responsibilities
- Setup, run, and validate multiphase and phase-change CFD simulations, including:
- Evaporation, boiling, condensation, sublimation, deposition, and freezing
- Multiphase flow phenomena such as airfoils, propellers, vortex formations, and related flow structures
- Work with the internal team to:
- Take 3D CAD models and adapt them for simulation (cleanup, simplification, fluid domain creation, etc.)
- Perform meshing and preprocessing (boundary conditions, material models, solver setup, convergence strategy)
- Execute simulations using:
- SimScale and/or open-source CFD stacks capable of multiphase and phase change
- OpenFOAM, including custom solver setup and tailoring workflows for physics accuracy and runtime efficiency
- Develop and run custom UDFs/custom code (as applicable) for phase-change modeling and simulation customization
- Run simulations on virtual desktops / offline workstations / GPU or compute clusters with minimal assistance
- Post-process results and deliver:
- Tables, charts, plots, and clear graphical visualizations
- Structured comparisons across design iterations
- Derive conclusions from data and provide optimization recommendations to the design team
- Produce detailed technical reports documenting methodology, assumptions, results, limitations, and next steps
Required Qualifications & Skills
- 4+ years of hands-on CFD experience in industrial or applied R&D settings
- Strong working knowledge of:
- Thermodynamics
- Fluid mechanics / fluid flow
- Numerical methods and practical CFD modeling considerations (stability, convergence, mesh independence, etc.)
- Experience with at least one of:
- SimScale
- Other open-source / accessible simulation platforms supporting multiphase and phase change
- Strong OpenFOAM capability:
- Case setup, solver selection, turbulence modeling, multiphase configuration, mesh workflows
- Ability to create and execute custom functions/scripts/UDF-style extensions for phase-change use cases
- Practical experience preparing geometry and simulation inputs:
- Geometry cleanup and simplification
- Meshing (structured/unstructured as required)
- Preprocessing for stable and accurate runs
- Comfortable operating in compute environments:
- Virtual desktops, remote Linux systems, HPC-style workflows
- Familiarity with GPU/cluster workflows is a plus (where applicable)
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
- Strong CAD capability, preferably Fusion 360 (or similar)
- Experience with:
- Phase-change models (VOF, Eulerian multiphase, cavitation/boiling approximations, conjugate heat transfer, etc.)
- Propeller/airfoil simulations (MRF/sliding mesh, vortex capture, transient setups)
- Ability to balance accuracy vs compute cost and still deliver results within tight timelines
- Experience building standardized templates for reports, dashboards, and repeatable workflows
Soft Skills & Working Style
- Self-driven and able to run end-to-end simulation tasks with minimal guidance
- Strong communication skills:
- Explains assumptions and limitations clearly
- Converts complex results into actionable design feedback
- Organized documentation habits and consistent reporting
What Success Looks Like (First 5–15 Days)
- Independently delivers multiphase/phase-change simulation studies from CAD → mesh → run → post-process → report
- Establishes repeatable workflows for simulation setup and reporting
- Provides clear optimization insights that accelerate iteration cycles for the design team
