The Opportunity
We are seeking a visionary and dynamic leader to assume the role of Chairman of the Anesthesia Department. This is a prestigious opportunity to shape the future of perioperative medicine at one of the region's leading hospitals. You will be responsible for providing strategic direction, ensuring the highest standards of clinical care, and leading a team of talented anesthesiologists and consultants. Your leadership will be critical to the success of our surgical services and the safety of our patients.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic & Clinical Leadership:
- Provide overall strategic direction and administrative leadership for the Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Medicine.
- Ensure the delivery of the highest quality, evidence-based anesthesia care across all surgical specialties, including OB/GYN, pediatrics, cardiac, neuro, and trauma.
- Oversee the department's activities in the Main OR, Day Surgery, Endoscopy, Cath Lab, and Obstetric Anesthesia.
- Champion patient safety initiatives and ensure adherence to international clinical protocols and standards (e.g., JCI, CBAHI).
Departmental Management & Operations:
- Manage the department's resources, including budgeting, financial performance, and staffing, to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.
- Develop schedules and assignments for departmental staff to ensure 24/7 coverage and optimal operation room efficiency.
- Select, evaluate, and maintain anesthesia equipment and medications.
Medical Staff Development & Academic Excellence:
- Lead the recruitment, mentoring, and performance evaluation of departmental physicians and staff.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning, promoting research, publications, and presentation of scientific work.
- Develop and oversee accredited Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs and training for residents, fellows, and medical students (if applicable).
- Ensure all departmental staff maintain valid SCFHS licenses and relevant certifications.
Collaboration & Governance:
- Serve as the key liaison between the Anesthesia Department and other clinical departments, hospital administration, and nursing leadership.
- Chair the Departmental Committee and participate actively in hospital-wide committees such as Pharmacy & Therapeutics, Infection Control, and Quality Management.
- Uphold and enforce hospital medical bylaws, rules, and regulations, and ensure compliance with SCFHS and CBAHI standards.
Qualifications & Experience:
Essential:
- Medical Degree (MD or MBBS) from a recognized institution.
- American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA), Fellowship of the Royal College of Anesthetists (FRCA), or equivalent Western Board Certification is mandatory.
- Valid SCFHS license as a Consultant in Anesthesia (or eligibility for immediate transfer/classification).
- Minimum of 12-15 years of post-certification experience in Anesthesia, with at least 5-7 years in a significant leadership role (e.g., Division Head, Section Lead, Deputy Chair) within a large, academic, or tertiary care hospital.
- Proven experience in a wide range of anesthetic techniques and patient populations.
- Demonstrated success in managing a departmental budget and improving operational efficiency.
- Strong track record in teaching, research, and quality improvement projects.
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and team-building skills.
Desirable:
- Sub-specialty fellowship training in a field such as Cardiac Anesthesia, Pediatric Anesthesia, Pain Medicine, or Critical Care.
- Master's degree in Healthcare Administration (MHA) or Business Administration (MBA).
- Previous experience in the Middle East/GCC region, particularly KSA.
