Chairman of Translational Genomics

Job Requirements

Education

Doctorate Degree [e.g. Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)] or equivalent in scientific or related discipline from an accredited university/institution is required.


Experience Required

Twelve (12) years post doctorate research experience as an independent professional with at least five (5) years extensive administrative/supervisory experience is required.


Other Requirements/ Certifications

Research productivity must be demonstrated in the form of publications in reputable relevant peer reviewed journals.



Summary

Leads, develops/enhances, and oversees the administrative, technical, scientific, and educational activities of the department, in accordance with the mission, goals and objectives of the Centre for Genomic Medicine (CGM) and Strategic Plan of the Organization.


Essential Responsibilities and Duties

1. Develops, implements, continuously monitors, and updates as necessary the department’s goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.

2. Ensures the timely preparation of annual operating budget for all assigned services/functions, and monitors and keeps expenditures within budget, ensuring cost effective practices are implemented.

3. Implements actions taken by the Executive Director, CGM and relevant committees of CGM and/or Healthcare Delivery, as appropriate. Chairs and/or serves on committees/taskforces, as assigned. Participates as a member of the CGM Departmental Committee, as requested.

4. Coordinates, consults, and interacts with the CGM Administration regarding all matters related to the department and serves as an advocate for its interests.

5. Enforces and monitors adherence of all staff to the Bylaws, rules, and regulations of the Organization, Healthcare Delivery and CGM.

6. Participates and implements selection and retention of competent professionals in the department through effective use of the credentialing policies and procedures.

7. Evaluates adequacy of staffing and ensures appropriate departmental mechanisms and processes are implemented to provide the needed research, innovation and education related support always. Conducts ongoing reviews and annual performance evaluation of all staff in consultation with Section Heads and/or immediate supervisors.

8. Reviews/enhances processes of the department to ensure that organization maintains its world-class reputation of patient care management through translational genomics activities, scientific and applied research.

9. Chairs regular departmental staff meetings to review and discuss goals, objectives, policies, procedures, administrative, translational genomics, educational, and patient care activities. Always ensures adequate and uninterrupted supervision of the department.

10. Promotes and directs the overall research, innovation and educational initiatives in the department.

11. Partners with relevant internal/external entities to write and publish scientific papers in advancement of technical innovation and patient care, in compliance with Organization rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

12. Follows all Organization’s related Policies and Procedures.

13. Participates in self and others' education, training, and development, as applicable.

14. Performs other related duties as assigned.
